Celebrating School Choice in Indianapolis
On January 30th, the Schrott Center for the Arts at Butler University will host an inspiring event, showcasing student talents in honor of National School Choice Week. The event is a collaborative effort involving Stages and Pages, the Uplift Foundation, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and the National School Choice Awareness Foundation. This year marks the 15th anniversary of National School Choice Week, a significant milestone aimed at raising awareness about the educational choices available to families.
The student showcase will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is poised to be a vibrant celebration featuring talents from elementary to high school students. The performances will underscore the critical role of mentorship in education. Event organizers associated with the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, along with representatives from the Asante Arts Institute, will encourage attendees to engage in mentorship initiatives, promoting a supportive environment for young learners.
The event arrives at a crucial time for educational developments in Indiana. Thanks to the state's Choice Scholarship Program, a record 97% of students now qualify for private school vouchers, enhancing access to diverse learning environments. Moreover, recent policy changes have eliminated school fees for public school transfers, further expanding options for families. Soon, the Indiana Learns program will start assisting parents financially with tutoring services, specifically targeting learning loss that has affected many during challenging times.
Eric Saunders, co-founder and CEO of Stages and Pages, emphasizes, "By celebrating the incredible talents of students from across Indiana, this event highlights how school choice empowers young people to thrive in environments that best support their learning and growth." This statement captures the event's essence: a celebration of individuality and opportunity within the educational landscape.
Participants will gather at Butler University's Schrott Mainstage, located at 610 W. 46th Street in Indianapolis. To RSVP, interested attendees can visit
