Beginning the 130th Holiday Season at Biltmore
This year marks a significant milestone as Biltmore opens its doors to holiday celebrations for the 130th time. The estate, located in the captivating city of Asheville, North Carolina, has set the scene for a very special Christmas tradition that dates back to 1895.
On October 29, 2025, the estate's employees gathered to raise a magnificent 35-foot Fraser fir, weighing a substantial 2,500 pounds, in the historic Biltmore House. This event signals the commencement of what is fondly referred to as "Christmas at Biltmore," which will run from November 1, 2025, through January 4, 2026.
A Journey Through Time and Tradition
To celebrate 130 years of holiday heritage, Biltmore’s design team took inspiration from historical archives, including letters and grocery lists from the first Christmas celebrated by George Vanderbilt. Every room in the Biltmore House offers a glimpse into the era's charm and elegance:
- - The Banquet Hall showcases decorations inspired by an affinity for the great outdoors, incorporating elements such as greens, coppers, feathers, antlers, and classic plaids that embody the essence of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
- - In the Kitchens, the buzz of holiday preparations reflects the spirit of Vanderbilt's initial Christmas feast through the recreation of century-old grocery lists.
- - Mrs. Vanderbilt's Bedroom presents a modern twist of Gilded Age fashion, bringing a fresh perspective to the estate’s history.
The festivities don’t stop at Biltmore House. The estate’s
Conservatory, a stunning glass-roofed greenhouse, is transformed into a vibrant seasonal display. Guests can admire a living wall of bromeliads, a sleigh full of white poinsettias, and a spectacular winter-blooming orchid collection.
At
Antler Hill Village, festivities continue with dazzling light displays and visits from Santa during select weekends, further enlivening the holiday spirit. Moreover, guests will have the opportunity to explore the fascinating exhibition,
Tutankhamun: His Tomb and His Treasures, adding a touch of ancient history to the holiday experience.
