On December 19, 2024, Beijing, the vibrant capital of China, opened its doors to the 2024 Forum on Rapid Response to Public Complaints. This prominent event gathered over 700 participants, including distinguished scholars, global representatives, and local officials, to discuss modern urban governance strategies.

Under the theme of "Modernization for People-Centric Urban Governance," the two-day forum aimed to address the pressing challenges of urban management in contemporary societies. Beijing is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and history; yet, it is also a modern metropolis that boasts a population of approximately 21.86 million residents across 16,000 square kilometers. The city has undergone significant reforms since it implemented a rapid response protocol for public complaints in 2019. In the past five years, Beijing has processed an impressive 150 million complaints, achieving a resolution rate of 96.5% and a satisfaction index of 96.9%. There has been an emphasis on transparency and effective communication, making sure citizens are informed throughout the process. Forum attendees were encouraged to visit the 12345 Citizen Service Center to observe firsthand the implementation of innovative approaches to urban governance.

The forum is co-sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Media Group, the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the Beijing Municipal Government. The event included a main forum and six parallel sessions, all aimed at fostering productive discussions to enhance the efficiency of public complaint management.
