Nuvei and Visa Launch Direct Payment System through Agent-Driven Commerce

Nuvei and Visa Innovate Payment Solutions

In a groundbreaking advancement for fintech, Nuvei, a global leader in payment infrastructure, has successfully completed a live proof of concept for agent-driven commerce with Visa, Arvato Systems, and fashion brand Kings and Priests. Announced on July 2, 2026, this collaboration aims to revolutionize digital transactions by allowing intelligent agents to facilitate purchases directly within a merchant's platform, eliminating the need for separate payment processes.

This innovative solution was particularly highlighted during a recent board meeting where merchants expressed the urgent need for agent-driven capabilities, signifying a shift in consumer behavior towards AI-assisted shopping. Phil Fayer, Nuvei's President and CEO, remarked, "Agentic commerce is the next evolution in digital shopping, where AI not only identifies products but also initiates purchases. This proof of concept is at the forefront of transforming payment processes."

How It Works

The trial involved an AI agent initiating a product purchase for the consumer, carrying out the transaction smoothly within the agent's environment. This agent utilized a tokenized Visa credential within Visa Intelligent Commerce, allowing for real-time payment settlement across various issuers throughout Europe. Importantly, all transactions were governed by buyer-defined limits and approved categories, enhancing security and user control.

This proof of concept not only showcases the potential of agent-driven commerce but also paves the way for the upcoming Nuvei Agentic platform, designed to empower any AI agent to execute payments seamlessly. The integration of this platform is positioned as a game-changer for retailers, enabling them to cater to the evolving demands of consumers who increasingly prefer automated shopping experiences.

The Future of Payments

Industry experts predict a remarkable growth trajectory for agent-driven commerce, estimating that global transaction volumes could reach $1 trillion by 2030 and $3 to $5 trillion by 2035 according to McKinsey. As these transactions transition to an agent-centric model, Nuvei is actively working alongside Visa and participating issuers to scale these capabilities into full production.

Mathieu Altwegg, Visa Europe's Product and Solutions Director, noted, "Through Visa Agentic Ready, we are expanding existing capabilities, including tokenization and network-level controls, to enable secure and consistent agent-initiated payments."

Collaborations and Future Launches

The proof of concept also engages key European partners, including Alpha Bank, Piraeus Bank, Bank Leumi, CAL, MAX, and Bank of Cyprus, highlighting the collaborative effort to enhance payment processes across various markets. As the project progresses, Nuvei aims to offer retailers a single interface through its existing platform, facilitating effortless integration with alternative software solutions without overhauling current payment experiences.

Ralph Hürlemann, founder of Kings and Priests, expressed excitement about the opportunities presented by agent-driven commerce, stating, "This showcases how our digital retail channels can be transformed through AI agents driving consumer purchases."

To ease the rollout, Nuvei plans to implement certifications for both Visa Intelligent Commerce and Mastercard Agent Pay, ensuring robust security for users during transactions. Additionally, the forthcoming release will encompass agent registration, consumer mandate validation, and agent reputation assessments to provide comprehensive oversight on transactions.

Phil Fayer added, "The essence of agentic commerce is a platform issue, not merely a functionality. Merchants require a centralized system to connect with all agents, protocols, and networks while retaining control over transactions. Our integration aims to streamline this process while ensuring security and efficiency."
