Community Health Plan of Washington Welcomes Betsy Jones as Chief Strategy Officer

The Community Health Plan of Washington (CHPW), a prominent not-for-profit health insurance provider based in Washington, has recently announced the appointment of Betsy Jones as its new Chief Strategy Officer (CSO). With over 25 years of invaluable experience in healthcare and human services, Jones is set to lead strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the organization’s mission to deliver equitable whole-person health care throughout the state.

As a crucial member of CHPW’s Executive Leadership Team, Betsy Jones will oversee product development, business growth, and foster collaborations with key stakeholders at local, state, and national levels. This strategic role is particularly pivotal for CHPW, as it provides services under programs like Apple Health (Medicaid), Medicare Advantage, and Individual Family Plans on the health exchange.

Jones, who previously contributed significantly to CHPW/CHNW over a decade ago, has a wealth of experience in integrating behavioral and primary care services. This blend of expertise, along with her past involvement in strategic planning and performance improvement, affords her a unique perspective that is crucial for the organization’s growth.

Leanne Berge, the CEO of CHPW and its parent company, Community Health Network of Washington (CHNW), expressed enthusiasm about Jones’s return. “We are extremely pleased to have Betsy rejoin us in this executive position,” she remarked. “Her extensive experience in national strategic healthcare leadership combined with a profound understanding of our community and its needs enables us to continue removing barriers and improving access to affordable, high-quality care for underserved populations.”

Previously, Jones served as a Managing Principal at Health Management Associates, where she managed large-scale projects that necessitated deep stakeholder engagement across various sectors. Her career has also included significant roles, such as Health and Human Policy Advisor in the King County Executive's Office, as well as positions at Sea Mar Community Health Center and numerous nonprofit organizations.

Reflecting on her new role, Jones stated, “Leveraging my background and experiences for an organization that consistently makes a difference in the community is incredibly rewarding. I am truly excited to be part of CHPW at this pivotal time.” She further underscored her commitment to advancing healthcare access and collaboration as a core value of CHPW’s mission.

Jones has earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Washington and an MBA from the American Graduate School of International Management.
