Shanghai Electric Secures Contract for Parau Phase II Solar Project in Romania

On October 1, 2025, Shanghai Electric (SEHK: 2727, SSE: 601727) entered into a landmark agreement with Econergy Renewable Energy Ltd. for the execution of the Parau Phase II photovoltaic project, enhancing Romania's green energy landscape by delivering 342 megawatts (MW) of clean energy. This project not only reinforces Shanghai Electric's commitment to advancing renewable energy in Central and Eastern Europe but also represents the company's fourth photovoltaic initiative in Romania.

The construction of the Parau Phase II project is poised to supply renewable electricity to both residential and commercial consumers alike, underscoring the growing momentum for sustainable energy solutions in the region. Mr. Wu Lei, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Shanghai Electric Group, emphasized the company's technological prowess in wind energy, photovoltaic systems, and energy storage technologies, stating, "We aim to accelerate the green transition in the region, fortifying our presence in Central and Eastern Europe."

This initiative aligns strategically with Econergy's expansion plans in Romania and neighboring markets. Andrea Loi, Vice President of Operational Activities at Econergy, expressed confidence in the partnership, highlighting Shanghai Electric's extensive technical expertise and successful track record in project implementation. "We look forward to a productive collaboration that will lead to the successful completion of this iconic project," he mentioned, reflecting the shared vision of fostering sustainable energy practices.

The Parau Phase II project follows the successful commissioning of the Parau Phase I, which had a capacity of 91.4 MW and began operation in November 2024. This initial phase currently provides clean energy to approximately 70,000 households, contributing to a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by around 6,800 tons annually. Additionally, Shanghai Electric's portfolio in Romania encompasses a 56 MW photovoltaic project, Schultu, which recently entered a two-year warranty and operational period, alongside another 60 MW project, Ovidi, which is under construction after securing a contract earlier this year.

As of October 2025, Shanghai Electric boasts a total project capacity of approximately 550 MW in Romania, underscoring a sustained commitment to the development of clean energy sources within the country. On the same day the contract was signed, Mr. Wu Lei engaged in notable discussions with Chen Feng, the Chinese Ambassador to Romania, and Istvan-Lorant Antal, Chairman of the Romanian Energy Committee. Their agreements highlighted Romania's active pursuit of transformative energy strategies, particularly in photovoltaics, energy storage, gas turbines, and power distribution, pointing towards collaborative prospects with esteemed enterprises like Shanghai Electric.

Furthermore, Mr. Wu Lei held high-level talks with executives from the Austrian group OMV, exploring potential cooperative endeavors in the energy sector across the region, further solidifying Shanghai Electric's pivotal role in Romania's transition towards renewable energy.
