Empowering Women in Finance: The Afternoon Idobata Dialogue Event Recap

Empowering Women in Finance: A Recap of the Afternoon Idobata Dialogue

On September 6, 2025, Fiduciary Partners hosted the Afternoon Idobata Dialogue, a networking event designed exclusively for women in the finance sector. The event attracted around 20 participants from 14 different financial institutions, fostering an open dialogue about career opportunities and personal growth within the industry.

Background of the Event

In observing the challenges female employees face in the finance sector, particularly regarding the lack of role models and networking opportunities, Fiduciary Partners aimed to create a space for women to engage in meaningful conversations. Many women have expressed feelings of uncertainty about their careers, especially concerning promotions, and the associated emotional toll these issues have inflicted has contributed to workplace stress and even resignations. To combat these challenges, the organization initiated a monthly online dialogue termed "Pajama Idobata Dialogue" in May 2024. This initiative set the stage for their inaugural face-to-face event earlier this year, which became a striking success leading to this latest gathering.

Structure of the Day

The event was conducted in three parts:
1. Self-Introductions
Participants shared personal stories encapsulating their careers and life choices.
2. Keynote Speaker and Q&A Session
Ikuko Yamaguchi, a speaker from a cooperative financial organization, presented the topic "Life Shift: Aiming for My Unique Working Style." Her narration hinged on personal experiences that resonated with many in attendance.
3. Networking Session
The extended networking allowed participants to interact and discuss their narratives, creating opportunities for mutual learning.

Participants engaged enthusiastically during the introductions and discussions, transcending their differing positions within their companies. They exchanged practical advice and insights that fostered an interconnected community. During her presentation, Yamaguchi captivated the audience with her relatable stories about "finding one's unique work style."

An imagery worth noting: participants struck a "D-Pose" as a gesture of solidarity, acknowledging each other's experiences and shared aspirations throughout the day’s activities.

Voices from the Participants

Feedback from attendees provided valuable insight into the event's impact:
  • - "Meeting others who work hard in our industry was incredibly invigorating. Amidst the scarcity of role models, I gleaned so much wisdom and reflected on my career path. I'm looking forward to future events."
  • - "As a first-timer, I felt a profound connection as we shared our struggles. Participating in an environment where everyone was a star was genuinely fulfilling."
  • - "I appreciated how everyone welcomed my minor concerns, letting me foster a more positive outlook. I feel proud for taking the first step to join."

Organizer's Remarks (Yuki Moriwaki)

Yuki Moriwaki emphasized that while the event is a woman-only space, it does not aim to create animosity against men. It’s not an occasion for grievances but rather an intimate forum where women can candidly discuss their careers and lives. The goal is to expand perspectives and uncover practical choices that support their professional journeys. Moriwaki strongly believes that for financial institutions to maintain public trust, they must reform organizational culture, where women who may be numerous yet underrepresented in decision-making positions can contribute meaningfully.
