Cooking Fun for Kids: A Special Culinary Event
Restaurant Cassolo, located in Toranomon, Tokyo, is set to host a unique cooking event aimed at parents and their elementary school children. This event celebrates the release of a new cookbook titled
“Cooking Basics for Kids: Recipes You’ll Want to Make Again and Again.” It will be co-hosted by Ayaka Ushioda of Mogumogu Children’s Cooking School and Takahashi Shoten, the publisher from the C&R Group.
Event Overview

July 5th, from
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, families will gather to learn the fundamentals of cooking in an enjoyable atmosphere.
Participants will engage in hands-on activities such as:
1.
Observing Rice Cooking: Utilizing a glass pot, children will witness the process of cooking rice.
2.
Hands-on Rice Cooking: Each participant will have the opportunity to cook rice using a pot.
3.
Making Onigirazu: Using the cooked rice, families will create their own onigirazu—a type of sushi wrapped with seaweed and filled with various ingredients, which gained popularity through the manga
“Cooking Papa.”
Instructor Profile
The event will be led by
Ayaka Ushioda, a certified chef and founder of Mogumogu Children’s Cooking School. With extensive experience as both a culinary educator and operator of a specialized children’s kitchen, Ushioda is passionate about imparting essential cooking skills to kids.
Event Schedule
- - 10:45 AM: Registration begins. Participants will pay the participation fee and receive a copy of the cookbook.
- - 11:00 AM: Introduction by the instructor and an overview of safety measures.
- - 11:10 AM: Explanation of how rice is cooked, including measuring and fire safety.
- - 11:40 AM: Cooking rice in groups while taking turns to observe.
- - 12:00 PM: Instructions for preparing onigirazu.
- - 12:15 PM: Family-based activity to create onigirazu with selected ingredients.
- - 12:40 PM: Tasting, sharing, and a recap of the event followed by closing remarks at 1:00 PM.
Event Details
Target Age: Elementary school students (grades 1-6).
Capacity: 12 family units (1 parent + 1-2 children), with a lottery in case of oversubscription.
Participation Fee:
- - 3,500 yen for 1 parent and 1 child
- - 4,500 yen for 1 parent and 2 children (includes the cookbook and ingredients)
What to Bring:
- - A hand towel and a drink (water or tea)
- - Parents should wear an apron and headscarf.
- - Cooking attire will be provided for children.
- - Clothing: Kids should wear pants, closed shoes, and have their hair tied back.
