Experience the Unique Flavors of Kumamoto Shochu at HAKUTAKE DAY in Tokyo

Discover HAKUTAKE DAY: A Celebratory Experience of Kumamoto Shochu

On May 23, 2026, Tokyo will play host to a unique gastronomic event known as HAKUTAKE DAY, held at Sho-chu ando in Tokyo Midtown Yaesu. This special gathering is a collaboration with Takahashi Shochu, a prestigious brewery from Kumamoto, and is set to introduce attendees to the rich flavors and versatility of shochu.

A Taste of Tradition and Craftsmanship

Since its grand opening in September 2025, Sho-chu ando has aimed to redefine the perception of shochu. Embracing the theme of “enjoying shochu more freely and casually,” this shochu bar specializes in craft shochus and rare varieties that are directly sourced from producers. The venue invites guests to discover the joy of shochu in a relaxed and approachable setting.

Details of the Event

The HAKUTAKE DAY event promises an evening filled with flavor and knowledge. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample three distinct varieties of Takahashi Shochu’s flagship white shochu series—Hakutake Shiro, Hakutake Kaoru, and Komu Ryuta. Each shochu will be complemented by specially curated dishes designed to enhance their unique qualities.

  • - Hakutake Shiro will be enjoyed with a refreshing water mix, paired with Kumamoto’s famous horse sashimi.
  • - Hakutake Kaoru, celebrated for its aromatic profile, will be served with crispy fried dishes and a soda mix.
  • - Komu Ryuta, an aged variant known for its complex depth, will be savored in hot water alongside spicy dishes.

Guests will delight in a four-course meal featuring these pairings, along with a dessert, available for a total of 4,500 yen (tax included).

Meet the Makers

A special highlight of the evening is the personal presence of Takahashi Shochu staff, who will share insights into the brewing methods, flavor characteristics, and best practices for enjoying shochu. This event offers a rare chance to connect with the producers and deepen one’s appreciation of the art of shochu making.

Event Schedule

The event is divided into three sessions, accommodating just 12 guests per session:
  • - First Session: 15:00 - 16:30
  • - Second Session: 17:00 - 18:30
  • - Third Session: 19:00 - 20:30

Reservations are required and can be made in person or via phone. Given the limited seating, it is advisable to secure your spot early.

The Philosophy Behind Sho-chu ando

The name Sho-chu ando reflects the establishment's mission to create a comforting space where people can explore the diverse world of shochu without preconceived notions. While shochu is known for its varied scents and flavors, it has often been viewed as daunting. Sho-chu ando aims to dismantle this bias, making shochu accessible and enjoyable for all.

In addition to its specialty shochu offerings, the bar serves hearty lunch specials, including a comforting soup, and in the evenings, guests can relish in a variety of delicious tapas and deep-fried skewers.

As a venue committed to fostering an appreciation for shochu's complexities, Sho-chu ando intends to host similar events regularly, making shochu a point of enjoyment and discovery for new and seasoned enthusiasts alike. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or just curious about shochu, HAKUTAKE DAY promises to be an engaging event that celebrates this unique beverage and the culture surrounding it.
