A Chilling Revival: Junji Ito's Tomie Comes to Life as a Reading Play!



The renowned horror manga artist Junji Ito's iconic work, Tomie, will be transformed into a thrilling reading play! Co-hosted by NTT Docomo and Animax Broadcast Japan, the play is set to run from January 12 to January 18, 2026, at Hulic Hall Tokyo. Alongside the performance, the eagerly anticipated original merchandise lineup featuring illustrations from the manga has been revealed, enticing fans and newcomers alike.

Dive into the Horrifying World of Tomie


Tomie is Junji Ito's debut work and a hallmark of his career, featuring a beautiful yet bewitching female character who drives those around her to madness. The story follows how her stunning beauty ensnares the hearts of men, leading them to obsession and ultimately, to desire her demise. Yet, Tomie's supernatural resilience allows her to rise again no matter how many times she meets her end. This reading play will showcase the eerie narratives of Tomie through the voices of a talented cast comprising 27 voice actors and actors, offering an immersive experience.

The script and direction are handled by Natsume Karasuma, the leader of the theater group Botan Sabo. Every performance promises to fully immerse the audience in the haunting atmosphere of Tomie's world, allowing attendees to enjoy the rich storytelling through the performative expressions of the cast.
