Tokyo Disability Sports Festival: Celebrating 60 Years

Tokyo is excited to announce the upcoming 60th Disability Sports Festival, specifically designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This event aims to promote participation and foster a sense of community through fun and engaging activities. This year, we not only celebrate six decades of this remarkable festival but also encourage everyone to join hands in making it a grand celebration.

Event Overview

The festival will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Tokyo Gymnasium Main Arena, located at 1-17-1 Sendagaya, Shibuya Ward. It's a fantastic opportunity for individuals residing, studying, or working in Tokyo, including those utilizing local facilities, to come together and participate freely in various athletic competitions.

Activities

The attendees can look forward to a variety of activities, such as:

• - Tamaire: A fun game where participants throw balls into baskets.
• - Tug of War: A classic test of strength and teamwork.
• - Large Ball Push: Collaborating to move a large ball across the arena.
• - 30-Meter Sprint: A friendly racing competition.
• - Flower Character Creation: All participants will contribute to creating a flower character that spells out “Celebrating 60 Years.”
• - Bon Para-Box: A rhythmic exercise combining Bon Odori dancing and Parapara dance, promising a lively atmosphere!

Online Participation

This year, attendees can also participate online from the comfort of their homes or facilities, ensuring everyone can join the celebration regardless of their circumstances.

Art Competition

In addition to the sports events, we are also holding an art competition, inviting participants to create artworks around the theme “Celebrating 60 Years: Bright and Joyful Gathering.” All submitted artworks will be exhibited at the event and included in the festival program booklet. Excitingly, the best piece will grace the cover!

Prizes will be awarded to:

• - Excellence Awards (2 winners)
