Kagayaki School's 12th Year: Empowering Adolescents with Health Education

Kagayaki School's 12th Year: An Expanding Horizon in Health Education

The Kagayaki School, a pivotal health education project for adolescents in Japan, is entering its 12th year in 2025. The initiative is dedicated to providing comprehensive health education to middle and high school students, focusing on critical issues such as women's health and dermatological care during puberty. In this year's expansion, the program aims to reach a more diverse audience than ever before.

Focus Areas: Women's Health and Dermatology Classes

Women's Health

The Kagayaki School offers impactful lessons on women's health, aiming to enhance students' understanding of unique health challenges faced by women. The program in 2025 has notably increased its reach in educational institutions with a high ratio of male students, such as technical and maritime schools. An impressive 3,953 students participated this year, with 2,414 of them, approximately 60%, being male. This shift highlights a growing recognition among educators for the importance of teaching male students about women's health. Feedback indicates that students’ awareness of issues related to infertility and pregnancy post-course improved significantly.

Educators have expressed the desire to equip all students with essential knowledge, helping to dismantle gender stereotypes surrounding health education. Particularly, the Japan Maritime School has embraced this initiative for two consecutive years, reflecting a strong endorsement from educators regarding the necessity of these lessons.

Dermatology Classes

The dermatology classes have introduced innovative methodologies to better connect with a wider array of students. This year marked the first time the classes were held at special education and evening high schools, addressing the unique needs of these environments. By meticulously planning lessons that directly tackle students' real-life concerns, the program has successfully engaged students at 10 different schools. The incorporation of practical experiences, such as using hand creams for skin care education, has dramatically increased student engagement and comprehension, with a reported understanding rate of 92%.

Similar to the women's health initiative, nearly 100% of teachers rated the dermatology classes highly for their relevance and effectiveness. The rise in interest and positive feedback from educators serves as a promising foundation for future developments in the program.

A Vision for the Future

As it moves forward, the Kagayaki School is committed to supporting future generations by enabling students to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The program will not only continue to refine its teaching content but will also respond proactively to the evolving needs of students and educators alike. Plans for 2026 include a variety of support mechanisms, such as teacher seminars and comprehensive educational materials for schools, with the aim to foster both student health and the educational capabilities of teachers.

Looking Ahead to 2026

The application period for outreach classes for the 2026 academic year is scheduled to begin on April 6. For further details, interested parties are encouraged to visit the official Kagayaki School website: Kagayaki School.
