Innovative Breakthroughs Steal the Show at Zhongguancun Forum 2026 in Beijing
The 2026 Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing, held recently, served as a grand platform for displaying cutting-edge scientific and technological advancements. This year's forum was marked by a notable closing ceremony where a total of 21 significant achievements were unveiled, showcasing innovation across numerous sectors. These accomplishments spanned critical areas like artificial intelligence, aerospace, integrated circuits, and healthcare, emerging from a wide range of contributors, including national laboratories, research institutions, universities, state-owned enterprises, and leading technology firms.
Among the highlights was the unveiling of a high-energy photon source developed by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This facility, now in its trial operation phase, signifies China's entry into the advanced 4.0 stage of synchrotron radiation light sources. Pan Weimin, the project director, emphasized the facility's capacity to illuminate the microscopic realm and aid in resolving significant scientific challenges. Dubbed a "super magnifying glass" and a giant "X-ray machine," this facility represents Asia's first fourth-generation high-energy synchrotron radiation light source. Once fully operational, it will boast at least 90 high-performance beamlines, having already completed 14 user beamlines and one test beamline in its initial phase. Researchers can anticipate unprecedented explorations into microstructures and their evolving processes.
Another groundbreaking achievement presented at the forum was the FlagOS 2.0, an open-source intelligent computing software developed by the Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence. This innovative software supports over 20 widely-used AI chips and is expected to lay the foundation for China's infrastructure concerning AI basic software. Additionally, it aims to bolster the extensive applications of domestic computing power, facilitating the independent and controllable growth of the industry.
