In a remarkable display of community support, Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. organized a product sale event for the Fujiwara Academy on December 18 and 19, 2023, at its Kiba headquarters. This initiative was specifically tailored for employees, allowing them to partake in the company’s efforts towards social responsibility (CSR). Every year, the company holds similar sales in June and December, fostering a culture of giving back within its workforce.

The Fujiwara Academy has a significant history, having been established in 1919 by Haruki Nakauchi, the brother of founder Zenpachi Fujikura. Funded through Nakauchi's private resources, the facility was created to serve individuals with intellectual disabilities, marking the roots of Fuji Electric’s commitment to societal contribution.

Located in Oshima Town, Tokyo, the Oshima Fujiwara Academy conducts vocational training aimed at economic independence for its residents. One of the highlights of this training is the “Fujicafe,” a living support facility where residents create and sell baked goods. Through the regular organized sales events, Fuji Electric continuously supports the economic self-reliance of the residents by providing a marketplace for their products.

This particular sale event featured a variety of local specialties, including pound cakes made from ashitaba and green chili, along with assorted cookies. The event saw enthusiastic participation from about ten young employees who helped in the sales, contributing to a vibrant atmosphere that was busy with attendees. Impressively, the selection sold out within about 20 minutes on both days, showcasing the company’s strong community spirit. Additionally, employees generously participated in fundraising activities to support the academy.

With the collaboration of the Fuji Electric Labor Union's Young Women’s Committee, feedback from participating employees highlighted the event's significance. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage in CSR activities, stating, “It’s a fulfilling experience to participate in the sale and contribute to social initiatives.” Others expressed satisfaction in purchasing sweets, sharing sentiments such as, “I am delighted to support the Fujiwara Academy, even in a small way, through these purchases.”

Fuji Electric remains dedicated to magnifying its efforts in charity, product sales, and volunteer activities. The company aims to extend its support to the Fujiwara Academy, ensuring its foundational role in community contributions in the years to come, thereby strengthening these vital connections with society and enhancing the livelihood of its residents. With a realistic aim, Fuji Electric looks to not only provide support but to also inspire its employees to engage in meaningful contributions that reach beyond the workplace, fostering a culture of social empathy and awareness.
