Telkomsel Unveils Expanded 5G Network in Greater Jakarta for Holiday Connectivity
Telkomsel Takes the Lead in 5G Expansion
Telkomsel, Indonesia's premier digital telecommunications provider, is on a mission to expand its 5G network, also known as Hyper 5G, across the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek). This ambitious initiative, supported by technology partner Huawei, aims to ensure that residents and visitors can enjoy seamless digital experiences during the festive Christmas and New Year celebrations of 2024/2025.
Comprehensive Network Upgrade
As part of this effort, Telkomsel has enhanced its 5G coverage across key routes in and around Jakarta, notably connecting major airports including Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma. Service areas now encompass vital business and governmental hubs, ensuring high-speed connectivity from the affluent neighborhoods of Pondok Indah to the cultural landmark National Monument (Monas). This ongoing rollout reinforces Telkomsel's commitment to meeting the increasing demand for faster data and more reliable connectivity.
With internet speeds up to four times faster than 4G and reduced latency, Hyper 5G is designed to support a range of new technologies and applications. Following its successful commercial launch in 2021, Telkomsel's 5G network has expanded to over 1,400 base transceiver stations (BTS) across 56 different cities and regions within Indonesia. Indra Mardiatna, the Chief Technology Officer of Telkomsel, emphasized the critical role of the Greater Jakarta area, citing its high 5G smartphone penetration and robust demand for speedy data services.
AI Integration for Enhanced Services
In addition to its 5G network expansion, Telkomsel is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline the management of its network and improve overall service quality. The company's Hyper AI approach is aimed at ensuring efficient responses to network interruptions and automating management through its Autonomous Network framework.
This innovative technology is pivotal in maintaining high service quality, especially in high-demand scenarios typical during the holiday season. According to Indra, Hyper AI enhances customer experiences at critical times, responding quickly to customer inquiries and providing superior service through AI-powered tools like the Veronika Virtual Assistant for consumers and the Ted Virtual Account Manager for businesses.
Preparing for Increased Data Traffic
With the anticipated increase in holiday traffic, Telkomsel has proactively optimized its infrastructure for both 4G/LTE and 5G networks. During the festive period, the company expects a notable surge in data traffic, projecting an increase of about 14.8% with total payloads reaching approximately 1,981 petabytes. Comprehensive network enhancements and extensive testing across vital routes will ensure that customers can easily access their favorite digital services with minimal disruption.
As Telkomsel strives to maintain its status as Indonesia’s leading telecommunications service provider, its focus remains on spreading positivity and fostering community connections during special moments. Indra concluded that by optimizing their connectivity solutions, Telkomsel seeks to ensure that everyone can celebrate the holiday season with joy and seamless digital access.
