Huawei and Turkcell Sign MoU for Advanced Network Innovations at MWC 2025

Huawei and Turkcell Join Forces for Advanced Network Innovations

During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 held in Barcelona, Huawei and Turkcell, a leading Turkish technology company, formalized their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at developing advanced sustainable networks. This partnership will leverage innovative products and solutions to create smarter cities and enhance network efficiency through next-generation 5G technology.

The MoU highlights both companies' commitment to pioneering advancements in telecommunications by utilizing the capabilities of the Enhanced Network developed by Turkcell. Central to this collaboration is the goal of creating smart cities that capitalize on cutting-edge technology in various sectors, including transportation, autonomous vehicles, and large-scale infrastructure.

Innovative Approaches to Network Development

Both Huawei and Turkcell plan to utilize 5G-A technologies for the design and implementation of smart urban environments. This initiative seeks to enhance user experiences by maximizing efficiency through smart technologies. At the heart of these innovations is the use of tunnel antennas to reduce cable consumption and improve network coverage, the Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technology that boosts precise localization, motion detection, and activity recognition, and the Supersite technology that adopts satellite systems as backhaul, facilitating redundant and sustainable connectivity.

In addition to smart city applications, the partners are set to conduct field tests for Symmetric 50GPON technology, which enables ultra-fast broadband connections for both downloading and uploading data. They will also explore Quantum Key Distribution technologies to deliver quantum-safe encrypted services, enhancing cybersecurity in the networks.

Leadership Perspectives

Professor Dr. V. Çağrı Güngör, the CTO of Turkcell, expressed the company's dedication to advancing next-generation network innovations. He stated, "Turkcell is committed to becoming a leader in network innovations for the future. Our focus on 5G-A technology enables us to build intelligent and efficient networks that meet the demands for connectivity in the years to come. Through continuous innovation, we aim to create networks that are smarter, more sustainable, and improve the digital experience for everyone."

On the other hand, Jim Lu, Huawei's president for the European region, emphasized the company's readiness to advance 5G-A capabilities. He remarked, "Huawei is focused on developing intelligent and sustainable networks that support the evolving needs of both users and enterprises. Through high-tech innovations, we are shaping a more connected and resilient future."

Conclusion

The collaboration between Huawei and Turkcell represents a significant step toward the realization of next-generation smart cities powered by advanced telecommunications infrastructure. By pooling their expertise and resources, both companies aim to create a sustainable and efficient network environment that will benefit urban spaces, enhancing the quality of life for residents and paving the way for future technological advancements. As this partnership unfolds, it will likely contribute substantially to how cities integrate technology and connectivity into daily life, emphasizing the role of telecommunications in shaping modern civilization.
