Justine Henin to Serve as Ambassador for Roland Garros Junior Series in Tokyo

In an exciting announcement, Justine Henin, a celebrated former tennis champion with seven Grand Slam titles, has been appointed as the official ambassador for the "Roland Garros Junior Series by Renault," which will occur in Tokyo from October 13 to 19. This series brings together 32 promising players under the age of 16 from Asia, allowing them to compete on red clay courts reminiscent of the iconic Roland Garros in Paris.

Henin's participation marks her inaugural role as an ambassador for this junior series, further underscoring her status as one of the greatest players in tennis history. Renowned for her precision, resilience, and unique one-handed backhand, Henin aims to share her expertise and insights with the young athletes during the week-long event at the Dai-ichi Seimei Ariake Tennis Park in Setagaya, Tokyo.

Throughout the tournament, Henin will engage in various activities including leading workshops, mentoring players on and off the court, and conducting coaching sessions. Notably, she is also scheduled to attend the opening ceremony on October 14 at the Pullman Tokyo Tamachi.

In an additional perk for the winners of the event, both male and female champions will receive an invitation for pre-tournament training at the "Justine Henin Academy" in Paris, including a special coaching session from the tennis star herself.

Henin expressed her excitement about her role, stating, "It is a great honor to be named the ambassador for the Roland Garros Junior Series by Renault in Asia. Roland Garros has provided many pivotal moments in my career, and I am thrilled to share my experiences with the outstanding junior players in Asia. I wholeheartedly support FFT's initiatives to foster diversity in tennis, and I look forward to supporting the next generation in Tokyo."

To commemorate Henin’s new role, the FFT has unveiled a special poster designed by KASA, the creator of the popular manga "BREAK BACK" which has resonated with tennis fans since its launch in 2018. The artwork features a dynamic illustration of Henin's signature one-handed backhand, juxtaposed against iconic symbols like Mount Fuji and the Eiffel Tower, capturing the essence of the tournament's connection between Japan and Paris.

KASA shared his enthusiasm, stating, "I have drawn Henin’s powerful one-handed backhand for the poster to celebrate her role as the ambassador. By incorporating Mount Fuji and the Eiffel Tower, I aimed to signify the connection between the Japanese tournament and the main event at Roland Garros, showcasing the beauty and strength of her play. I sincerely hope that every junior player gives their best, and that the entire tournament flourishes."

Global partner Renault’s Stéphane Barbe expressed support for Henin’s appointment and the new poster that symbolizes the journey from Tokyo to Paris. "Renault is proud to support the Roland Garros Junior Series by Renault, which grows more ambitious and influential every year in collaboration with FFT. This Japanese event, featuring ambassador Justine Henin, represents a special occasion, as she is a true icon who inspires young players. Additionally, I was profoundly moved by the new poster illustrating the journey from Tokyo to Paris through a manga perspective. Supporting the next generation of talent in Asia and amplifying their dreams is a mission Renault is fully committed to."

The FFT has also announced the participation of Shuzo Matsuoka, a prominent figure in Japanese tennis, who will attend an exhibition event on October 13 and the opening ceremony on October 14. Matsuoka conveyed his appreciation for the event returning to Japan, highlighting the importance of providing young players with a global perspective through valuable opportunities.

The Roland Garros Junior Series by Renault, co-hosted by the FFT, Asian Tennis Federation (ATF), and Japan Tennis Association (JTA), offers Asia's top junior players invaluable experience on premier red clay courts, and champions are awarded entry to the main event of the Roland Garros Junior Tournament in Paris in 2026.

Henin, regarded among the greatest tennis players, has an impressive career boasting seven Grand Slam singles titles and a total of 117 weeks as the world number one. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2016 and continues to nurture young talent through her academy in Belgium. Today, she remains dedicated to mentoring the next generation of players, guiding and inspiring them in their pursuit of tennis excellence.
