New Energy Equity Launches Moriah Community Solar Project Enhancing Local Economy and Energy Supply

New Energy Equity's Moriah Community Solar Project

New Energy Equity has officially unveiled its new solar initiative in Moriah, New York, marked by the launch of the Moriah Community Solar Project. This significant project, boasting a capacity of 7.0 MWdc, is expected to produce more than 8.3 million kWh of renewable energy annually. This output can effectively power over 1,200 homes in the region, playing a pivotal role in both the local energy supply and the economic landscape.

The Moriah Community Solar project is strategically located in the picturesque Adirondack region, an area that holds considerable potential for renewable energy developments. The project is a testament to New Energy Equity’s unwavering commitment to cultivating solar energy solutions while enhancing the economic stability of local communities. By leasing land from a nearby homeowner for the installation of solar panels, the project not only secures a green energy source but also provides a promising financial boost to the local family.

According to Josh Kunkel, President and CEO of New Energy Equity, “Moriah Community Solar reflects our mission of building solar projects that generate reliable energy and lasting economic value.” He emphasizes that the benefits of the project extend beyond landowners, also promising increased revenue that can be funneled into local schools, public safety, and essential community services, thereby improving the well-being of residents and augmenting the local infrastructure.

Moreover, this initiative opens avenues for National Grid customers in New York, who can now enroll in community solar programs to obtain utility bill credits based on their share of the energy produced. This not only contributes to personal savings on electricity bills but also fosters a collective approach to renewable energy use in the region.

The project’s development was made possible through a collaborative effort with East Side Solar Holdings, with New Energy Equity taking ownership of the solar installation post-construction. The venture's execution was entrusted to Radiance Solar, a recognized firm specializing in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services that adhere to high safety and quality standards. Gordon Hilburn, VP of Operations at Radiance Solar, remarked on the partnership, stating, “Working with New Energy Equity, who shares our commitment to quality, made it feasible to provide this new electricity source for New York residents.”

Mark Coles, Managing Director of East Side Solar Holdings, shared his pride in bringing the project from concept to fruition, highlighting the successful partnership with New Energy Equity. He stated, “We look forward to further collaborations to expand our community solar initiatives across New York and beyond.”

New Energy Equity is not new to the solar scene; it has an impressive track record of over 600 MW of solar projects successfully developed across 16 states. The firm remains dedicated to empowering landowners, promoting sustainable economic development within communities, and collaborating with partners for long-term financial benefits.

This launch heralds a significant advancement not only for Moriah but for the broader Adirondack region, marking a strong move towards sustainable energy solutions and economic empowerment. By harnessing the power of solar energy, New Energy Equity is not just delivering electricity; it is facilitating a brighter future for New York families and communities.
