Reworld® Launches ReAssure™: A Major Step in PFAS Destruction Solutions
In a groundbreaking move for environmental sustainability, Reworld®, a frontrunner in waste management solutions, has introduced ReAssure™, a new initiative aimed at tackling the pervasive issue of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contamination. With the national roll-out of ReAssure™, Reworld aims to provide the largest full-scale destruction capacity for PFAS across municipal, commercial, and industrial waste streams in the United States. This innovative solution addresses one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time – the disposal of these so-called "forever chemicals," which can persist in the environment and the human body.
The stakes are high: since their introduction in the 1930s, PFAS compounds have been incorporated into thousands of products and are notorious for their resilience against degradation, raising significant health and environmental concerns. They are associated with a wide range of health risks, including cancers, immune system effects, and developmental issues. The urgency of finding permanent and effective disposal methods cannot be overstated, particularly as nearly everyone in the U.S. is now believed to contain some level of PFAS in their blood, thanks to their ubiquitous presence in everyday products.
Reworld's ReAssure™ employs advanced Thermomechanical Treatment Facilities (TTFs), which operate at temperatures exceeding 1,100°C (2,012°F). This high-temperature process is crucial for achieving effective PFAS destruction, as rigorous tests have shown a 99% destruction and removal efficiency—an uncommon capability within the waste disposal sector. While hazardous waste incineration is an option, it pales in comparison to ReAssure's processing capacity, which exceeds it by more than 17 times, making it a unique offering in the market.
Moreover, ReAssure™ encompasses a network of over 50 Material Processing Facilities (MPFs), which prepare PFAS-laden waste for treatment at TTFs. This network not only expands geographical reach but also ensures a wide variety of PFAS waste streams can be managed effectively. Considering the range of industries that generate PFAS waste, from manufacturing to agriculture to construction, this comprehensive approach allows Reworld to handle the diverse arrays of PFAS-containing materials responsibly.
Logistics play an essential role in the efficiency of ReAssure™. The initiative provides integrated logistics services and advanced wastewater treatment systems with activated carbon, ensuring a streamlined process from waste collection to final destruction. This level of management not only enhances the operational efficacy but also guarantees traceability, allowing clients to monitor their PFAS waste journey through a documented chain of custody every step of the way.
“We cannot allow PFAS to remain contained or stored indefinitely; they must be fundamentally destroyed,” explained Azeez Mohammed, President and CEO of Reworld. “ReAssure™ presents a robust and trustworthy solution that stops the cycle of PFAS in the environment, ensuring clear accountability rather than simply passing on liabilities.”
Reworld's commitment to addressing PFAS contamination comes in response to alarming trends. Landfills have traditionally served as the default disposal option for PFAS-containing materials; however, simply stockpiling these chemicals in landfills does not eliminate the problem. Rainwater can leach PFAS, creating hazardous leachate, while landfill gas emissions also release these toxic compounds into the atmosphere. Therefore, the urgent need for full-scale PFAS destruction is more pressing than ever.
The launch of ReAssure™ follows extensive study and successful pilot tests, including collaborative efforts with authoritative bodies like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Further validation is expected from an upcoming comprehensive report on the findings from extensive testing campaigns across facilities in Pennsylvania and Minnesota, which have continually demonstrated minimal PFAS emissions when employing Reworld’s TTFs.
Lastly, as society grapples with the challenges posed by PFAS contamination, the diversified service offerings presented through Reworld's networks—not only for solid waste but also for liquid PFAS waste—stand at the forefront of protecting public health and fostering a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
Through initiatives like ReAssure™, Reworld is reinforcing its identity as an innovative leader committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. For additional information about ReAssure™ and its various benefits, visit
