Planet Fitness' Summer Program Encourages Teens to Stay Active with Over 12 Million Workouts Completed

Planet Fitness Encourages Teens to Get Fit This Summer

The summer of 2026 has seen a remarkable commitment from the youth, as Planet Fitness unveiled its sixth annual High School Summer Pass® program. This initiative provides free gym access to teens aged 14 to 19 at over 2,900 participating locations in the U.S. and Canada, and the results have been astonishing: more than 12 million workouts logged to date.

This program, active until August 31, empowers teens to prioritize their fitness at a time when they are typically looking for activities to enjoy during their summer break. What’s more, the program aligns perfectly with the current societal shift toward healthier living. As participating teens spend their summer not just engaged in physical exercise, but also developing healthier habits, the community impact is becoming unmistakably clear.

A Shift Towards Healthy Habits

In response to a recent survey conducted by Planet Fitness among teens and their parents, a whopping 90% of participants reported a significant reduction in their screen time since joining the program. This shift away from social media and screens is crucial, particularly in an age where youth mental health issues are on the rise, and 93% of teens confirmed that their mood improved after a workout. Parents, too, are observing these positive changes, with 73% noting that the program has positively influenced their teen’s summer experience, making it far more productive and enriching.

The benefits extend beyond the gym; the social component shines through as well. 53% of teens enjoy working out with friends, while 20% go to the gym with siblings. This communal aspect fosters stronger family bonds, with 86% of parents stating that the program has sparked meaningful discussions about wellness within their households. In essence, the High School Summer Pass not only promotes fitness among teens but also strengthens family connections.

Lasting Health Habits Beyond Summer

The enthusiasm for fitness fostered by the summer program isn’t expected to dwindle with the arrival of the school year. The survey results indicate that 94% of teens and 93% of their parents believe that the healthy habits formed this summer will carry forward into the academic year. Interestingly, over 80% of the participating teens are already exercising two or more times a week, even before the summer is over.

Colleen Keating, CEO of Planet Fitness, expressed pride in achieving over 12 million workout sessions. She emphasized the importance of the program's welcoming environment, ideal for all fitness levels. “When given the opportunity and access, high schoolers are actively choosing to invest in their health. We are proud to offer an inviting, Judgement Free community that supports them in building positive, lifelong habits,” she said.

To enhance the fitness journey, all participants in the High School Summer Pass program will receive an exclusive discount from Gymshark to help them look and feel great during their workouts.
