Bierernst Craft Brewery Unveils Nümasuguri Blueberry Sour Ale
In December 2025, Bierenst, a local craft brewery based in Tama City, Tokyo, will launch its latest creation:
Nümasuguri Blueberry Sour Ale. This refreshing craft beer features blueberries sourced from Tama City, showcasing the region's unique flavors. The brew will officially hit the market on December 6 and promises to tantalize taste buds with its distinct profile.
Founded in 2015 by Ikka Ichikawa, a barber turned brewer, Bierernst represents the latest expansion of
TAMA tumuji WERKS, which includes a hair salon and a café,
PARLOR. The brewery opened its doors in 2023, becoming the only craft brewery in Tama City at the time. Ichikawa personally oversees the brewing process, ensuring each batch reflects his vision of accessible and enjoyable flavors.
For the Nümasuguri Blueberry Sour Ale, Ichikawa aims to offer something that captures the essence of Tama City while appealing to those who may not typically enjoy beer. The use of blueberry juice imparts a refreshing sweetness, while the gentle sourness reminiscent of yogurt from lactic acid fermentation adds complexity. With an alcohol content of 6.5%, this beer is crafted to be juicy and easy to drink.
Collaboration with Local Artist face
The unique packaging for Nümasuguri is another standout element of this product, created in collaboration with Tama City's own artist,
face. Known for his work with pop culture festivals, face designed the box to represent their mutual goal of promoting Tama City. It features vibrant visuals celebrating local scenery, including the lush Tsurumaki-Higashi Park, a beloved landmark among residents.
This partnership highlights the commitment of both Ichikawa and face to their community. Their shared passion for elevating Tama City culture can be seen throughout the design, making each bottle of Nümasuguri a piece of local artistry.
In addition to the beer, limited-edition T-shirts and tumblers featuring face's Tama-themed designs will also be available to coincide with the release.
A Taste of Tama City
Nümasuguri Blueberry Sour Ale has already received positive feedback during its test phases, being offered at various events since the summer of 2025. The special packaging will be available both at the Bierernst brewery café and online, making it easy for consumers to enjoy this innovative brew.
In a nod to local traditions, Nümasuguri will also be sold at the historic
Koyama Shoten, a well-known sake shop that has served the community since 1914. This broad availability is part of Bierernst’s aim to keep tantalizing Tama City residents with craft beer made from local ingredients.
Looking forward, Bierernst plans to expand its offerings by introducing more craft beers made with Tama City fruits, with the next release slated for 2026, featuring grapes.
