EliTe Solar's Ambitious Solar Manufacturing Project in Egypt
EliTe Solar, a leading manufacturer of photovoltaic solar panels based in Singapore, has taken a significant step towards enhancing renewable energy production in Egypt. On December 16, 2024, the company celebrated the opening of a new solar manufacturing facility in the TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, which marks a major milestone in its global strategic expansion. The facility is set to cover an area of 78,000 square meters with a planned capacity of 5 GW. The production lines aim to produce 2 GW of solar cells and 3 GW of solar modules, slated to commence operations in September 2025.
Attending the ceremony were distinguished guests including Waleid Gamal Eldien, chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone; Ouyang Xiaoming, first secretary of the Chinese embassy in Egypt; Li Daixin, chairman of China-Africa TEDA Investment Co., Ltd.; and Liu Jingqi, president of EliTe Solar. These leaders exchanged insights about the project’s future outlook and implications for the region.
Waleid Gamal Eldien emphasized the importance of this project for Egypt’s solar industry. He stated, "The launch of this project represents a significant milestone in the development of the Egyptian solar sector. By introducing advanced solar manufacturing technologies and optimizing local supply chains, this initiative will elevate Egypt’s production standards in solar energy. EliTe Solar's advanced technology and managerial expertise further solidify our global standing in the solar energy sector."
This initiative not only brings advanced energy production technology to Egypt but also boosts the local solar industry’s supply chain and enhances the country's export capabilities, reinforcing Egypt’s influence in the global solar market. Additionally, it injects new vitality into the local economy and serves as a driving force to support Egypt’s renewable energy goal of achieving 42% transformation to clean energy by 2030.
As highlighted by Li Daixin, the project positions Egypt as a key solar manufacturing hub in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It strengthens supply chain opportunities while providing crucial support for global renewable energy growth. Given the recent electricity shortages in Egypt, the need for diversifying the energy architecture to secure energy independence has become urgent. This project addresses these challenges by providing sustainable solutions through renewable energy.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to generate 500 million kWh annually, which would save approximately 307 million tons of standard coal, equating to offsetting carbon emissions equivalent to planting 84 million trees.
Liu Jingqi, president of EliTe Solar, stated, "The launch of the Egyptian project not only showcases our expertise in technological innovations and industrial integration but also underscores EliTe Solar's mission to lead in the global renewable energy development. Together with our partners, we are building a greener future and setting new benchmarks for global energy transformation."
Founded in 2005, EliTe Solar has established several manufacturing centers in various countries including Vietnam, Indonesia, and now Egypt, consolidating its international industrial presence. The company is committed to supporting the energy transition by exporting high-quality technologies, thereby contributing to global sustainable development.
