Allegheny Health Network Appoints New Chief Nurse Executive



Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has announced the appointment of Dr. Ashley M. Carlucci as the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE), effective April 13. Dr. Carlucci, a seasoned nursing leader, will oversee a workforce of approximately 6,000 bedside and administrative nurses across the network. Her experience in operational and nursing excellence marks her as a vital addition to AHN’s leadership team.

Before her new role at AHN, Dr. Carlucci held the position of Market Chief Nursing Officer at University Hospitals, a prominent health system in northeast Ohio comprising 21 hospitals. In this capacity, she demonstrated exceptional leadership in nursing strategy and operations, furthering nursing engagement across a network that included seven hospitals.

Mark Sevco, president of AHN, expressed enthusiasm about Dr. Carlucci's appointment, highlighting her commitment to improving nursing practices and fostering a culture of clinical excellence. Dr. Carlucci's tenure at University Hospitals saw her actively involved in integrating various hospital systems and leading transformative initiatives that yielded significant improvements in care quality and operational performance. With a strong foundation in nursing, she earned her degrees from renowned institutions—her Bachelor's in Nursing from Kent State University, master's degrees in nursing science and health administration from Saint Joseph's College of Maine, and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University.

Beyond her academic achievements and professional experience, Dr. Carlucci is actively engaged in several professional organizations, including the American Organization for Nursing Leadership and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Her research work, focusing on diverse topics such as triad leadership and emotional intelligence, has garnered recognition in numerous clinical and nursing journals.

Outside her career, Dr. Carlucci values her family life, engaging actively in her community alongside her husband, Mark, and their three children—Gina, AJ, and Audrey, who serve as her daily inspiration.

Commenting on her new role, Dr. Carlucci expressed her honor in joining AHN. Notably, four of AHN’s hospitals have received the prestigious Magnet recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a distinction held by the top 9% of hospitals in the country, showcasing their commitment to high standards of nursing practice. The recognized hospitals include AHN Allegheny General, AHN West Penn Hospital, AHN Jefferson, and AHN Saint Vincent.
