The Future of Traditional Crafts: Tokyo's Teshigoto Project Unveils New Creations

The Teshigoto Project, initiated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government alongside the Tokyo Small and Medium Enterprise Support Center, seeks to develop new traditional crafts that align with modern consumer needs. Since its inception in the 2015 fiscal year, the project has focused on aiding artisans in creating innovative crafts and exploring new markets both domestically and abroad.

On May 26, 2024, the Teshigoto Project will host an event at Otemachi Mitsui Hall in Chiyoda Ward from 3 PM to 4:30 PM, with general visitor access until 6 PM. This event will mark the debut of products created through collaborations between artisans and designers, showcasing an array of new items that highlight the exquisite skills of handcrafting. The event will also include a presentation ceremony for distinguished products, particularly those awarded the Tokyo Governor’s Prize, inviting guests to appreciate these artisanal creations.

Sales and Exhibitions


Starting May 27, the newly unveiled products will be available for purchase at "THE COVER NIPPON" and will also be featured on the EC site "Koikiya Tokyo" beginning June 1. Additionally, these products will be showcased at the 34th "Interior Lifestyle" exhibition from June 10 to 12, which is another opportunity to witness their artistry.
