Lockton Launches Global Division for Data Centers and Digital Infrastructure
Lockton, recognized as the largest privately-owned and independent insurance brokerage firm worldwide, has recently introduced its global advisory division dedicated to data centers and digital infrastructure. This strategic move is designed to assist organizations in navigating the intricate risks associated with infrastructure that stores, processes, and transmits information globally. By combining its extensive experience in managing complex risks linked to digital infrastructure—including hyperscale data centers, expansive construction projects, and operational portfolios—Lockton aims to provide comprehensive support in this evolving sector.
Tim Ryan, Lockton’s U.S. Director, emphasized the critical role of data centers in the modern world, stating that the risk landscape surrounding this infrastructure is increasingly interconnected, capital-intensive, and time-sensitive. Organizations are now seeking advisors who fully understand the lifecycle of a project, from initial planning and site selection to ongoing operations and expansion. The new division is focused on empowering clients to confidently navigate the complexities involved.
The advisory team integrates risk management strategies, analytics, and technical expertise into a cohesive consulting model, serving a broad ecosystem that includes owners, operators, developers, investors, hyperscalers (major cloud service providers), and technology vendors. This integrated approach supports clients from the crucial decision-making phase during project planning through construction, operations, and continual risk management.
Lockton’s newly established division will tailor its solutions to the specific needs of each client but will also offer a suite of innovative products and customized solutions addressing construction and real estate risks, errors and omissions, service level agreements, environmental dangers, cybersecurity threats, and surety—among other areas.
Chris Brown, CEO of Lockton International, pointed out the rapid evolution of the global market for data centers and digital infrastructure. He articulated how Lockton's independent model enables the firm to harness global expertise from various regions, allowing the customization of solutions to meet the specific business requirements of each client. This approach promises advisory services that extend well beyond traditional insurance brokerage.
The leadership of the data centers and digital infrastructure division will be in the hands of James Nelson in the U.S. and Sam Baker in the U.K. Both leaders will collaborate with Lockton executives globally to advocate for a comprehensive strategic approach. Nelson brings a wealth of consultancy experience concerning risks and insurance, previously holding significant roles at Eldin Risk, Marsh, Cerberus Capital, and Alvarez & Marsal. Baker has been with Lockton for 13 years, advising on innovative insurance solutions for global clients, and has recently overseen the development of Lockton’s proprietary product offerings for data centers.
Ryan further articulated Lockton’s mission: to support clients in constructing and managing critical infrastructure—ranging from individual projects to extensive portfolios—with resilience, confidence, and assurance. With proactive risk management, organizations can invest less time in addressing complex scenarios and more time on growth and innovation.
