Okayama University, located in the heart of Japan’s Okayama City, is set to host a significant seminar entitled "The Birth of the Terahertz Industry" on October 30, 2025. This event will take place from 1:30 PM to 3:05 PM at the Engineering Building, Lecture Room 4 at the Tsushima Campus. This seminar highlights the latest advancements in terahertz technology and its burgeoning applications across multiple sectors.

What is Terahertz Technology?


Terahertz waves are electromagnetic waves that range from 100 GHz to 100 THz. Recent advancements in semiconductor and laser technologies have significantly boosted the utilization of these waves in various fields. Notably, terahertz waves are anticipated to play a critical role in semiconductor testing, medical diagnostics, next-generation communications, and quantum computing applications.

The seminar will feature distinguished speakers from the terahertz field:
  • - Ryoichi Fukazawa, Representative Director of Spectrum Design Inc., will discuss advancements in terahertz wave sensing technology, focusing on its potential in industrial applications.
  • - Masayoshi Tonouchi, Specially Appointed Professor at Okayama University and Emeritus Professor at Osaka University, will present on practical semiconductor R&D and wafer-scale process management applications.
  • - Toshihiko Kiwa, Professor at Okayama University, will delve into the applications of terahertz wave chemical microscopy.
