Huawei Digital Power Accelerates Global Energy Transition with Advanced ESS Solutions

Huawei Digital Power's Leading Role in Energy Transition

Huawei Digital Power has made significant strides in global energy transformation, especially showcased during the Intersolar Europe 2025 exhibition. Under the theme “Empowering a Grid-forming Future with Smart PV and ESS,” the company presented its FusionSolar strategy and new products compelling enough to attract nearly 300 global customers and partners.

At this pivotal event, Huawei highlighted its advanced grid-forming energy storage solutions (ESS) designed for various applications, including utilities, microgrids, commercial installations, and residential settings, illustrating the potential of renewable energy in shaping future electrical grids. This initiative is crucial as the world gears towards a comprehensive energy transition to renewable resources.

Key Innovations and Solutions

Steven Zhou, head of Huawei Digital Power's Smart PV and ESS product line, elaborated on the integration of the “4T” technologies — bit, watt, heat, and battery — aimed at constructing a robust energy infrastructure for new power systems. Zhou also stressed three core value propositions: grid formation across all scenarios, security from cell to grid, and versatility in design, which significantly enhances the development of fully renewable energy systems.

Enhancing Grid Stability

The technology behind grid formation plays a vital role in ensuring the long-term stability of new power systems. It applies to energy generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption. The comprehensive security measures implemented guarantee the safety of equipment, personnel, and assets at every operational stage.

Moreover, the innovative collaboration management platform backed by artificial intelligence supports various business models, predicts energy efficiency, and optimizes operating policies automatically, further enhancing the adaptability of Huawei’s solutions.

Innovations in ESS

Huawei launched a next-generation Smart Series Grid-forming ESS platform among its suite of offerings. This platform addresses the challenges surrounding renewable energy integration and ESS security by providing features like complete life-cycle cost-effectiveness and full connectivity digitalization alongside seamless compatibility with various grid scenarios.

An exemplary application of this technology is a substantial project in the Red Sea region, which boasts 1.3 GWh ESS and 400 MW PV installations, reportedly serving as the world’s largest microgrid. This microgrid has been operational for more than 18 months, successfully delivering over 1 billion kWh of green electricity, thereby demonstrating the efficacy of Huawei's solutions.

In a similar vein, another project in China’s Ngari province features a 30 MW PV and 6 MW/24 MWh ESS deployment. Set at an altitude of around 4,600 meters, it is designed to operate efficiently in harsh conditions with low temperatures and weak network factors. The facility can ramp up power output vastly while its ESS showcases significant utility in grid support, evidencing its reliability and adaptiveness.

A Vision for Secure Energy Storage

Huawei's innovative ESS transcends traditional energy storage value propositions through advanced power electronics technology and smart intelligence, ensuring grid security and stability. Such initiatives usher in a new page for renewable energy integration on a global scale.

Furthermore, Huawei has redefined ESS security by elevating protective measures from conventional container levels to sophisticated packaging tiers, thus offering enhanced safeguards for energy storage systems. The integration of a multi-dimensional, fully connected, smart battery management system drastically improves proactive security capabilities, ensuring the healthy evolution of the energy storage industry.

The launch of the new Home Energy Management Solution 6.0 illustrates Huawei's commitment to pioneering smart energy consumption in residential settings. This new solution is coupled with the residential ESS LUNA S1-7kWh and offers unprecedented warranty standards, optimizing energy usage by advancing available capacity significantly beyond industry averages.

Huawei's commitment to shaping grid formation standards across diverse scenarios will provide customers and partners worldwide with innovative Solar PV and ESS solutions that exceed expectations while propelling the global energy transition into future developments.
