As the Gulf Coast braces for the chilling impact of Winter Storm Enzo, authorities are on high alert. Forecasts predict a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Warning effective from 6 PM on Monday until 6 PM on Tuesday. This alert covers the Greater Houston region, where the effects of the storm are expected to be significant.
CenterPoint Energy's Response
In anticipation of the storm, CenterPoint Energy, a major utility provider in the area, is mobilizing substantial resources to ensure public safety and electrical service continuity. The company has activated its emergency operations center and set up three staging areas to prepare for potential power outages caused by the extreme weather conditions.
Approximately 1,200 mutual aid workers are arriving in Houston to assist local crews in restoration efforts. These additional workers will support CenterPoint teams as they respond to service interruptions that may occur due to the storm's impact on the electric infrastructure. Darin Carroll, Senior Vice President of CenterPoint's Electric Business, emphasized the company's commitment to readiness, stating, “Our teams are prepared and ready to respond to any impacts from Winter Storm Enzo.
