At the recent Global Digital Power Forum held during MWC Barcelona 2026, Huawei Digital Power, in collaboration with the Global Computing Consortium (GCC), announced the launch of an innovative initiative aimed at establishing an AIDC (AI Data Center) ecosystem. This initiative is designed to enhance the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector, addressing the ever-increasing demands and challenges associated with the utilization of artificial intelligence in data management and processing.

The Growing Demand for AIDC



As the era of smart technology advances, there is a notable surge in the need for AI Data Centers. The collaboration between Huawei and the GCC reflects a commitment to optimizing energy consumption, improving deployment efficiency, and ensuring safety and reliability in telecom operations. With millions of telecom base stations facing high energy consumption and grid limitations, the integration of solar energy has emerged as a vital solution, not only to provide low-emission power but also to capitalize on solar energy as an effective resource. Insights from Huawei Executives



Zhou Jianjun, Vice President of Huawei and President of Global Marketing, Sales, and Services at Huawei Digital Power, emphasized the company's longstanding support for the ICT sector through the provision of 5G, AI, and cloud solutions. He underlined the necessity for a more resilient, flexible, and reliable energy infrastructure as the transition towards AI continues. Operators are now transitioning from solely being consumers of energy to becoming both consumers and producers, encouraging sustainable growth within the industry.

In his address, Xia Hesheng, Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei Digital Power, articulated the rapid deployment of AI applications, which has resulted in an exponential rise in demand for computing power, steering the AIDC sector into a new phase of dynamic development. The industry now grapples with four main challenges in AIDC construction: reliability, energy efficiency, timely delivery, and smooth evolution.

Collaboration for AIDC Ecosystem Development



The joint initiative between Huawei Digital Power and the GCC aims to foster regional compatibility in standards and specifications. By accommodating local policies, environmental conditions, and technical requirements, the initiative seeks to share practical experiences and cultivate a dynamic, global knowledge base for AIDC technologies. The specification serves as a bridge, facilitating the creation of a vibrant ecosystem that can adapt to the rapidly changing technological landscape.

Jin Hai, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of GCC, noted that varying energy mixes and policy directions across countries highlight the need for distinct specifications. This diverse landscape presents both challenges in standardization and golden opportunities for co-creating solutions across the industry. He asserted that relevant standards could substantially support the growth of the global digital economy if they are rooted in a profound understanding of regional needs and market realities.

Launching AI-Driven Green Installations



During the forum, Huawei Digital Power introduced its AI-driven green installations, designed to facilitate the transformation of operators from mere energy consumers to active prosumers. The concept behind these green installations emphasizes simplicity in the deployment process while meeting the operational demands in areas such as 5G station setup and energy storage revenue maximization.

Frost & Sullivan’s Senior Vice President Gautham Gnanajothi highlighted that while telecommunication networks were initially designed for resilience, the coming decade will be dominated by intelligent solutions. These will transform extensive, geospatially dispersed energy resources into coordinated platforms that not only protect operational continuity but also actively stabilize energy systems, creating new value streams and positioning telecommunications as a strategic player in the broader energy ecosystem.
