Zenni and Chase Stokes Promote Wellness with Free Vision Care for Students

In a groundbreaking initiative promoting student wellbeing, Zenni Optical has partnered with actor Chase Stokes and non-profit organization Bring Change to Mind (BC2M) to deliver free vision care and mental health support to New York City high school students. The program, aimed at addressing both physical and mental health, took place on October 7 at the Manhattan Early College Academy (MECA), where nearly 300 students benefited from free vision screenings, assessments, and stylish eyewear from the Zenni x Chase Stokes collection. The collection features EyeQLenz™ lenses with Zenni ID Guard™, designed to ensure that students not only see clearly but also have access to high-quality protective eyewear.

The day was not just about improving vision; it was also an opportunity for students to engage in mental health discussions led by their peers from the BC2M Club at MECA. This dual approach recognizes the connection between eye health and mental wellbeing, especially at a time when students face unprecedented pressures. Veronica Alcaro, Zenni's VP of Brand, emphasized the importance of clear vision in fostering engagement with the world, stating, "Eye health is an important part of overall wellbeing... clear vision should never be considered a luxury."

The partnership is particularly poignant given the proximity to World Vision Day on October 8 and World Mental Health Day on October 10, providing a timely framework to discuss the integral links between different facets of health. Research supports this idea, noting a significant association between vision impairment and challenges related to mental health in young people.

Chase Stokes, a passionate advocate for student wellbeing, took part in a meet-and-greet with the students, continuously reinforcing the message of holistic health. He remarked, "Taking care of your health means taking care of the whole person, including both your vision and your mental wellbeing." His direct involvement—and the distribution of eyewear from his collection—underscores the initiative's intent to make vision care relatable and accessible to students.

Bring Change to Mind worked alongside Zenni and Chase to expand the discussions beyond eye health, promoting open conversations around mental wellbeing and reducing stigma associated with mental health issues. Pamela Harrington, Executive Director of BC2M, highlighted the importance of creating supportive environments where students can discuss their mental health challenges openly. She stated, "Creating spaces where young people can talk openly about their mental health is essential to building healthier communities."

This program aligns with the broader mission of both Zenni and BC2M to ensure young people have the resources they need to prioritize their wellness. The collaboration includes not only vision screenings and eyewear distribution but also equips students with tools to make informed choices about their mental health and wellbeing.

Zenni's long-standing commitment to making eyewear affordable is brought to light through this initiative. Founded in 2003, Zenni has revolutionized the eyewear industry with its affordable online offerings, ensuring that quality eyewear is accessible for all. Collaborating with influential figures like Chase Stokes and organizations such as Bring Change to Mind strengthens their mission and proves that corporate social responsibility can have a tangible impact on communities.

The initiative's success at MECA marks the beginning of an important conversation about the interconnectedness of physical and mental health. By championing initiatives that prioritize the comprehensive wellbeing of students, Zenni, Chase Stokes, and Bring Change to Mind are paving the way for healthier and more supportive school environments and encouraging students to take charge of their health.
