Coordinated Care Launches Statewide Health Tour Offering Free Vision and Dental Screenings Across Washington

Coordinated Care Launches Statewide Health Tour

In an effort to ensure greater access to essential health services, Coordinated Care is embarking on a significant initiative across Washington. This nine-day tour provides much-needed vision and dental screenings to communities statewide, employing dedicated vans named ‘SeeMore’ for vision care and ‘Flossy’ for dental services.

Elevating Healthcare Access

The tour is designed to reach rural locations where healthcare resources are limited. By bringing vital services to underserved areas, the initiative aims to reduce health disparities and improve the quality of life for many Washington residents. CEO Beth Johnson emphasized, "Geography shouldn't determine a family's access to proactive, preventative care." This sentiment underlines the mission of Coordinated Care to break down barriers and facilitate essential healthcare access for all individuals.

Free Services Offered

Throughout the duration of the tour, numerous services will be available at no cost, including:
  • - Vision Screenings: The SeeMore van will provide free vision screenings and prescribe glasses, accommodating various needs including bifocals. Selected frames can even be chosen on-site, with glasses delivered to homes within a month.
  • - Dental Screenings: The Flossy van will conduct free screening for both adults and children, as well as fluoride treatments for kids aged 4-18. Attendees will also receive free dental kits equipped with toothpaste, a toothbrush, and floss.

Community Impact

Each stop of the tour is anticipated to attract hundreds of attendees, with up to 200 vision screenings and around 35 to 40 dental appointments being conducted daily. This outreach is further enhanced by partnerships with local organizations that offer supplementary resources such as food supplies, immunizations, and educational materials.

The Centene Foundation’s generous support includes donations for essential supplies like hygiene products and clothes, particularly valuable in areas impacted by recent natural disasters, including wildfires.

Star Power and Community Engagement

Highlighting the significance of community collaboration, Pro Football Hall of Famer Walter Jones, a Seattle Seahawks legend, will be joining the tour for its final stop in Yakima. He will be part of a special event giving away 1,000 free pairs of shoes to children, ensuring they’re well-equipped for the upcoming school year. Jones remarked, "I'm always excited to work with Coordinated Care because they understand the importance of whole-person care that meets families where they are."

Conclusion

Coordinated Care remains committed to transforming health outcomes in Washington through its proactive approach. This tour not only enhances healthcare accessibility but embodies community spirit and support, reinforcing the idea that health should be a fundamental right enjoyed by all, regardless of their circumstances. By meeting individuals where they are, both geographically and personally, Coordinated Care fosters a healthier community, free from the limitations that often accompany healthcare access.
