Innovative Space Design at ITOKI DESIGN HOUSESENDAI
ITOKI Co., Ltd., based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, has recently unveiled a stunning office space design in Sendai named
ITOKI DESIGN HOUSESENDAI. This project is a pivotal working showroom aimed at addressing the challenges faced by businesses in the Tohoku region while promoting new working styles. Through the
ITOKI WORK-Style Design initiative, designers provide insights into forward-thinking office environments that amalgamate local cultural elements with cutting-edge workspace strategies.
A Fusion of Local Influences and Modern Needs
The design ethos reflects not only ITOKI's expertise in workspace practices but also the unique characteristics of the Tohoku region. The showroom features a design inspired by the tree-lined avenues of the
Jozenji-dori in Sendai, where the play of sunlight through the leaves is artistically captured in the flooring materials. This creates an inviting and open atmosphere where employees can feel connected to the surrounding cityscape and nature.
In addition, traditional Aomori craft known as
Kogin embroidery has been incorporated into bespoke sound-absorbing panels and cushion covers, further enriching the space with regional artistry. The use of locally sourced materials such as Akita cedar and Iwate’s
Nanbu ironware introduces Tohoku's cultural treasures, enhancing the overall aesthetic and functional quality of the work environment.
Flexible Workspaces Designed for Collaboration
The layout of the workspace is meticulously crafted to include various working points like concentrated working desks, lounge areas, and counter seats. This variety enables employees to choose their working spots based on their tasks and personal preferences. Recognizing the importance of social interaction, the design includes a café lounge and library area, fostering collaboration and encouraging the exchange of ideas among team members.
Moreover, the showroom features artworks showcasing landscapes that the six prefectures of Tohoku aspire to preserve for future generations. This initiative serves to create new connections with the community, illustrating a blend of regional pride and modern work modalities.
