The Empowering Waseda University Student Forum at J PREP
Following the successful University of Tokyo student forum, J PREP hosted another enlightening event dedicated to encouraging high school students to contemplate their futures. On July 12, 2026, J PREP invited six accomplished graduates now attending Waseda University to share their experiences with current students of the English academy. This event was a part of J PREP's ongoing commitment to providing career support to students in junior high and high school.
Event Highlights
The Waseda University Student Forum was targeted at J PREP students from grades 9 to 11. It took place from 14:30 to 15:30 at J PREP's Shibuya headquarters, in the spacious event hall located on the second floor of J PLAZA. The panel included graduates from various faculties, including the School of Humanities, School of International Studies, Faculty of Political Science and Economics, School of Law, and the Faculty of Advanced Molecular Science.
During the session, these former students discussed not only their everyday experiences and campus life but also provided insights into the admission processes they encountered, including specific testing methods and the degree of academic freedom offered in their respective programs. They focused on delivering real, accessible insights that pamphlets and brochures could not convey.
Insights from Participants
The current students attentively listened as the graduates shared their life stories and academic journeys. Post-event, attendees shared overwhelmingly positive feedback.
One student expressed,
“It was excellent to gain a better understanding of what university life feels like. I especially appreciated the detailed information on admission processes from those in each department.” Another noted,
“This event enlightened me about elements of college, such as the flexibility in courses, which aren’t typically outlined in the brochures. It was an invaluable opportunity.”
Others commented on the immense value of hearing about the real-life experiences of students currently attending Waseda University, noting how informative it was to hear about the different journeys leading to university enrollment. One participant remarked,
“I learned that even within a single institution like Waseda University, there are numerous ways to learn and grow, and this experience proved to be incredibly beneficial.”
The forum allowed J PREP students to actively think about their future career paths and educational journeys.
The Importance of Career Guidance
In a world that is rapidly evolving, it is increasingly crucial for middle and high school students to envision their career aspirations and educational objectives early on. J PREP prioritizes not just the teaching of English communication skills—speaking, writing, reading, listening, and critical thinking—but also aims to foster a holistic learning environment that supports lifelong educational pursuits. As part of this initiative, J PREP regularly facilitates opportunities for students to interact directly with role models such as alumni.
Looking ahead, J PREP plans to continue hosting events focused on career development and lifelong learning for its students, as well as informative sessions about university admissions. These efforts strive to create a robust educational atmosphere that extends beyond mere language skills to equip students to thrive globally.
