The National PTA has announced the appointment of Howie Berman, MA, CAE, as its new executive director. This significant decision comes as the organization looks to reinforce its mission of advocating for children’s education, health, and well-being, especially during such crucial times.

Bringing more than twenty years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Berman has an impressive background that includes roles with education-focused organizations. Most recently, he served as the interim executive director at the National Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations (NFMLTA). In this role, Berman worked to promote the advancement of modern language education. Prior to that, he held key positions at the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), where he served as both executive director and chief operating officer over five years.

Yvonne Johnson, president of the National PTA, expressed excitement about Berman’s appointment, stating, "Howie brings extensive experience in education and the nonprofit association space, which will be a tremendous asset as our association continues our critical work to make a difference for the education, health, safety and well-being of every child." Underlining the organization’s mission, she emphasized the importance of ensuring that all children and families have the necessary resources to thrive in today's educational landscape.

A Certified Association Executive (CAE), Berman's academic qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in political science and Spanish from the University of Richmond and a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies from the University of Chicago. His knowledge and expertise enhance the National PTA’s leadership, providing a promising outlook for the future of the organization.

Reflecting on his new role, Berman stated, "National PTA has an extraordinary, impactful legacy. There could not be a more important time for being a powerful voice for all children and families, supporting and advocating for our nation's public schools and teachers, and ensuring every child's potential becomes a reality." His commitment to working alongside dedicated board members, talented staff, and tireless volunteers emphasizes his readiness to champion the collective cause of families and students nationwide.

Starting on May 19, 2025, Berman will lead the National PTA in its ongoing mission. The organization, which comprises millions from various backgrounds—families, educators, and community leaders—aims to foster educational success and engagement in schools. National PTA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit group recognized for being a formidable advocate for children, and it proudly operates to ensure that family engagement is at the forefront of educational initiatives.

As the educational landscape continues to evolve, Berman’s leadership at the National PTA is expected to propel the organization towards innovative solutions and impactful advocacy.
