Infineon Technologies AG Wins 2025 German Sustainability Award for Electronics Excellence
Infineon Technologies AG Triumphs at the German Sustainability Award 2025
In a remarkable achievement, Infineon Technologies AG has been honored with the prestigious German Sustainability Award for 2025 in the category of "Electrical Engineering and Electronics." This accolade highlights the company's unwavering commitment to sustainability and its role as a trailblazer within its industry.
The German Sustainability Award is renowned as Europe’s largest recognition for environmental and social efforts, and it serves to identify organizations making commendable contributions towards transformation within their sectors. In the jury's statement, they acknowledged Infineon’s prominent leadership in sustainability, describing the company as a "beacon" for successful industry transformation.
Elke Reichart, a key figure at Infineon and Chief Digital and Sustainability Officer, expressed her joy at receiving this honor during the awards ceremony in Düsseldorf. "Winning the German Sustainability Award is both an honor and a motivation for us at Infineon as we strive for decarbonization and digital transformation. We aim to work collaboratively with our employees, clients, and partners to create a sustainable future. This recognition encourages us to persistently pursue implementing our robust sustainability strategy," she remarked.
Infineon has established a comprehensive decarbonization strategy designed to achieve climate neutrality by the year 2030, a goal defined back in 2020. Since that time, the company has impressively reduced its emissions by over two-thirds while simultaneously nearly doubling its revenue. Additionally, Infineon is augmenting its collaborations across the entire supply chain to further its sustainability objectives. As a pioneering organization, they have also initiated reporting emissions at the individual product level, referred to as the Product Carbon Footprint, with data currently available for about half of its product range.
A key example of Infineon’s dedication to sustainable product innovation is its introduction of a new energy-saving silicon carbide (SiC) module. This groundbreaking solution, which has garnered nominations for the prestigious 2024 Deutscher Zukunftspreis, significantly enhances the energy efficiency of existing high-performance electrical applications. This technology plays a crucial role in advancing the efficient generation, transmission, and storage of energy, especially in renewable energy infrastructures such as solar and wind power plants, as well as in electric locomotion systems. For instance, an electric locomotive utilizing this innovative drive system can save approximately 300 megawatt hours of energy annually, equivalating to the yearly energy consumption of about 100 single-family homes.
The German Sustainability Award collaborates with several reputable organizations, including the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, WWF Germany, and various industry associations to ensure the competition's integrity and effectiveness. This year, the jury evaluated around 2,000 companies from 100 diverse sectors, further underscoring the significance of Infineon’s accomplishment.
In light of its recent achievements, Infineon Technologies AG continues to uphold its reputation as a global leader in semiconductors focused on power systems and IoT applications. The firm aims to drive decarbonization and digital transformation, employing about 58,060 people worldwide with a revenue of approximately €15 billion in the fiscal year ending September 2024. Infineon is publicly traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (ticker symbol IFX) and on the OTCQX International market in the USA (ticker symbol IFNNY).
