The Cultural Significance of Urban Signage
Today’s urban environments are filled with numerous digital signage, primarily serving commercial interests. NEORT aims to reimagine these spaces as venues for cultural engagement and artistic exploration, providing a fresh context for community interaction and artistic creation. This initiative is particularly relevant in a historical setting like Miyashita Park, which reflects Japan's complex urban development from the Meiji era through reconstruction after WWII and Olympic redevelopment.
Key Values of this Project
The exhibition is founded on three essential values:
1.
Openness for Participation: Encouraging artists, creators, and citizens to contribute to a grassroots cultural initiative.
2.
Memory of Place: Utilizing digital technology to forge new narratives and a sense of local identity within urban environments.
3.
Experimentation in Public Accessibility: Exploring new forms of cultural accessibility within public parks.
A Comprehensive Digital Signage Network
This exhibition features 42 digital signs strategically positioned across RAYARD MIYASHITA PARK. The new installations include:
- - 4 signs on the 2nd floor of the South Block
- - 6 signs on the 3rd floor of the South Block
- - 6 signs on the 2nd floor of the North Block
- - 9 signs on the 3rd floor of the North Block
With this vast digital art network, attendees can enjoy a cohesive artistic experience throughout the park while appreciating the allure of digital art.

Curation by NEORT
The featured artworks exemplify the diversity of visual experiences possible in urban spaces. Kitasenju Design's "Brutal Divs" uses CSS to reimagine everyday web design elements as generative art, drawing inspiration from architectural brutalism to create a unique visual language. In contrast, seohyo’s "Tracing the City Lights" visualizes the vibrant energy of nocturnal cities through dynamic gradients that evoke the shimmering nightscape. Both works harness digital technology to create new contexts that resonate with visitors.
