Bayer AG Enhances Global Payment Systems with Broadridge Migration
Bayer AG, a leader in the life sciences sector, has made strides in modernizing its financial infrastructure by transitioning to the Broadridge Swift Service Bureau (SSB). This change aims to bolster Bayer's global payment systems and enhance the security and standardization of financial messaging across its operations worldwide.
Marcel Bennemann, Project Manager at Bayer AG, expressed that this move represents a significant leap forward in reinforcing their treasury operations. The company was in search of a solution capable of not only managing complex system integrations but also ensuring compliance with rigorous validation processes and readiness for the ISO 20022 messaging standard. Furthermore, Bayer handles an impressive volume of approximately 4 million payment transactions annually with over 80 banking partners across the globe.
Broadridge has delivered a secure and scalable platform that meets Swift SCORE+ performance criteria. This initiative has improved transparency, compliance, and operational resilience within Bayer’s global payment landscape.
The implementation involved thorough message exchange testing with over 20 of Bayer’s banking partners to ensure high transaction capacity and a variety of payment types across numerous financial institutions. It’s important to highlight that large-scale transitions such as this demand significant technical expertise, disciplined execution, and cooperative efforts. Heidi Dittmar, head of Broadridge in Germany, emphasized the depth of collaboration that made this migration successful, showcasing a tailored solution that accommodates Bayer's changing regulatory and operational needs. The collaboration allowed for the integration of multiple systems and complex authorization structures.
Bayer took a two-phase approach to this migration. The first phase concentrated on transitioning to the Broadridge SSB in order to modernize connections and standardize global financial messaging. In the second phase, integration of the Swift Transaction Screening Service (TSS) was established, providing real-time screening capabilities and supporting evolving regulatory necessities.
Employing an agile model, the project teams were able to engage in rapid iterations and closely coordinate, ensuring meticulous configuration, development, installation, extensive testing, and sustained postgo-live support to maintain smooth operations.
With the successful initiation of this new system, Bayer now possesses a modernized and scalable Swift messaging and connectivity model. It increases transparency, control, and compliance in its treasury operations. The infrastructure is designed to support secure payment processing, utilize standardized ISO 20022 messaging, and enhance oversight mechanisms.
Moreover, this progressive framework establishes a roadmap that moves beyond conventional connectivity models enabling Bayer to harness new API capabilities alongside existing Swift channels. This enhancement positions Bayer to elevate its automation capabilities, increase agility, and ensure real-time integration across its global financial ecosystem, reaffirming the company’s commitment to operational excellence.
