Lockhart Solar PV IV Project Successfully Enters Commercial Operations and Boosts Energy Capacity

Overview of Lockhart Solar PV IV Project

The Lockhart Solar PV IV Project has officially commenced commercial operations, marking a significant milestone for Terra-Gen. This project, located in San Bernardino County, California, adds 80 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity to the region’s renewable energy landscape.

With this addition, the total capacity of the Lockhart Solar and Storage complex has now reached over 530 MW, which includes 365 MW of solar energy generation and 173.7 MW of battery storage. This increase in capacity is capable of supplying electricity to approximately 40,000 homes and businesses annually, bolstering the state’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.

Significance and Impact

John O'Connor, CEO of Terra-Gen, expressed excitement about the project's launch, emphasizing that it contributes to meeting the growing energy demand while also fostering economic, social, and environmental benefits. "We are proud to have brought the Lockhart IV project online, reflecting our strong investment in renewable energy initiatives," he stated.

The successful construction of this project has been commendable in terms of job creation as well; over 220 jobs were generated at peak activity, with construction crews logging over 122,000 work hours without any lost-time incidents. Cupertino Electric served as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor, ensuring the project's technical execution was on point.

Comprehensive Solar and Storage Infrastructure

The Lockhart Solar and Storage facility spans approximately 4,000 acres of private land, comprising nearly 1 million solar modules and 248 battery enclosures. The project's strategic utilization of the existing gen-tie line to connect to Southern California Edison’s Kramer Junction Substation optimizes the distribution of the electricity generated.

The facility's total operational capacity now aligns with natural energy goals, providing enough power to meet the needs of over 350,000 homes and businesses yearly. This is an impressive feat given the extensive push for renewable energy investments at both state and federal levels.

Looking Ahead: Continued Growth in Renewable Energy

As part of its larger development pipeline, Terra-Gen boasts projects totaling more than 15 gigawatts (GW), positioning itself as a leader in the renewable energy sector in the United States. With significant emphasis on delivering reliable, sustainable energy, the company seeks to meet both current and future needs for electricity, further paving the way towards a cleaner energy landscape.

About the Partners

The Lockhart project is brought to life thanks to the joint ownership of Terra-Gen by Masdar and Igneo Infrastructure Partners. Masdar has established itself as a powerhouse in clean energy, while Igneo Infrastructure Partners is recognized for investing in mature infrastructure companies across various sectors.

Their collaborative efforts not only focus on profitability but also emphasize a commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. Ongoing projects reflect a dedication to innovation and sustainability that shapes the future of energy.

In conclusion, the operational status of the Lockhart Solar PV IV Project represents more than just an increase in capacity—it signifies a stride towards a sustainable future in energy generation. With ambitious plans and a clear vision, Terra-Gen and its partners remain crucial players in the global shift towards renewable energy solutions.
