Experience the Enchantment of Moominvalley in Winter at Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo

Enchanting Winter Nights at Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, located in Bunkyo, Tokyo, is set to launch its winter garden display, entitled "Forest Aurora and Tokyo Sea of Clouds," starting on November 11, 2025. This enchanting event is in collaboration with the beloved characters from the Moomin series, specifically drawing inspiration from the novel "Moominvalley in Winter." The narrative revolves around Moomin's awakening from hibernation and his first encounters with snow, ice, and the breathtaking auroras.

The event aims to merge the tranquil beauty of winter gardens with the whimsical world of Moomin, offering visitors a unique experience that showcases the serene charm of the season.

An Interactive Moomin Experience

Guests will discover quotes and stories from beloved characters such as Too-Ticky, the Groke, and Mr. Hemulen throughout the garden. The displayed signs and banners will create an atmosphere that reflects Moomin's winter escapade, allowing guests to embark on their own journey of discovering winter.

Visitors who indulge in afternoon tea, evening high tea, or Premium afternoon tea will also have the chance to experience a special "Garden Orientation" tour guided by Moomin's story. They will receive a sticker rally sheet, a garden map, and a letter from Snufkin, all of which will enhance the exploration of the garden, allowing them to feel as if they are wandering through Moominvalley itself.

A Winter Spectacle of Light

The "Forest Aurora" display features six layers of light that combine various intensities and angles to create a stunning illusion of a real aurora. Set around the Yusui Pond within the garden, this display will intertwine with the Tokyo Sea of Clouds, enhancing the wintry ambiance with its light and misty contrasts. This year, guests will witness an even more immersive experience with an enriched color palette featuring emerald greens and deep blues.

Additionally, a seasonal highlight of snow-draped light fixtures known as "snow hanging light-up" will take place from November 26, 2025, to March 2, 2026. The garden, recognized as part of Japan's Nightscape Heritage, will be illuminated gently, accentuating the peaceful beauty of winter nights. The hotel shop, known as “Selections,” will also be offering a limited edition meringue treat named “Aurora Meringue,” inspired by the aurora light display, featuring a delightful blend of cassis tartness and meringue sweetness.
