Tokyo's Night Art: Projection Mapping by Student Creators
Tokyo is enhancing its nighttime tourism with a captivating display of projection mapping on the iconic Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Kicking off on March 27, this initiative showcases four remarkable works created by students, the next generation of visual artists. These projects, crafted under the guidance of leading creators over a three-month period, bring fresh perspectives and innovative expression to the art form.
Featured Works from Young Creators
Here are the details of the four student-created projection mapping pieces:
1. "Tokyo Elevator" by Ctrl+
Affiliation: Tokyo Metropolitan University
This project transforms the imposing vertical structure of the Tokyo City Hall into an imaginative space, connecting deep underground to the cosmos with an orbital elevator concept.
2. "Tokyo Crossing" by Kiriko no Kiriko
Affiliation: Tokyo Zokei University
In this piece, the geometric beauty of the government building is intertwined with traditional Japanese crafts such as Edo Kiriko glass and Mizuhiki, reflecting the aesthetic principles of Japan’s craft traditions.
3. "Seasonal Journey" by Smiley Progress
Affiliation: Tokyo Communication Arts School
Focusing on the changing seasons, this work portrays the seasonal motifs of Japan, illuminating the cultural significance of each time of year.
4. "Hand 'Restructure'" by RinKamitani
