First Light Novel Project Contest. This contest opens doors for aspiring writers, encouraging collaboration with editors to unleash groundbreaking ideas that the genre has yet to explore.
What is the Light Novel Project Contest?
This initiative seeks not only to select standout works but also to identify the next generation of light novel writers. Unlike traditional contests that focus solely on finished works, this contest places emphasis on innovative project proposals across six distinct themes. Participants are invited to craft original pitches, while leveraging provided frameworks to ignite their creativity.
Submission Guidelines
Writers of all experiences, from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic newcomers, are welcome to submit their projects. Each proposal must embody the following criteria:
- - Fit one of the six project types specified below (from A to F).
- - Feature a male protagonist.
- - Be conducive to series development.
- - Convey a significant theme or message.
Project Types
1.
Type A: No specified protagonist / Genre: Survival / Direction: Tense
2.
Type B: Creator protagonist / Genre: Contemporary / Direction: Passionate
3.
Type C: No specified protagonist / Genre: Post-apocalyptic / Direction: Youthful
4.
Type D: Supernatural protagonist / Genre: Occult / Direction: Battle
5.
Type E: Buddy duo (male and female) / Genre: Journey / Direction: Serious
6.
Type F: Antagonist protagonist / Genre: Open / Direction: Rise to power
Evaluation Process
The competition will conclude with rigorous evaluations carried out by editors from
Dangan Bunko. Each proposal will be examined based on creativity, originality, and adherence to the contest's submission criteria.
Submission Limit
Only the first
600 entries will be evaluated, covering project outlines as well as text excerpts. Due to this limit, early submissions are encouraged to secure a place in the evaluation.
Key Dates
- - First Round Deadline: November 30, 2025 (maximum of 600 entries)
- - First Round Result Announcement: Late December 2025
- - Second Round Deadline: January 31, 2026 (up to 20,000 words of the text)
- - Second Round Result Announcement: Late February 2026
Results will be published on the official Dangan Bunko website and social media channels. Submissions may take longer to evaluate depending on response volume.
