CalibFX®: The Future of Virtual Production Calibration Software
At the upcoming
Inter BEE 2025, held from
November 19 to 21, 2025, at Makuhari Messe,
Spice Inc. will unveil their groundbreaking calibration software,
CalibFX®, engineered specifically for the virtual production industry. This innovative software promises to transform how filmmakers align real-world and CGI elements, enhancing the quality and efficiency of virtual productions.
What is CalibFX®?
CalibFX® is an all-in-one calibration solution that combines lens calibration and camera offset functionalities, enabling users to rectify discrepancies between live-action footage and digital content seamlessly. With its official launch slated for
December 2025, CalibFX® is compatible with a wide array of cameras, lenses, 3D engines, and camera tracking systems, making it an invaluable tool for virtual studios worldwide.
Features of CalibFX®
1. #### Lens Calibration
The first step involves capturing lens profiles essential for virtual shooting, using an
AR Tag Board. By loading the captured lens profile into a 3D engine, the properties of the actual recording lens, including angle of view and distortion, are projected onto the virtual camera.

The calibration method leverages data from the camera tracking system to derive FreeD information, reading zoom and focus values. By imaging dedicated AR Tag Boards at various zoom and focus positions, users can increase measurement points, ensuring accurate representations of lens behaviors. CalibFX® supports various lens types, including broadcast, cinema, and prime lenses, allowing for universal calibration across all lenses that provide FreeD data.
Calibration Metrics include:
- Field of View
- Distortion Coefficients (K1, K2)
- Nodal Offset
- Focus Distance
- Aperture
- Sensor Size
- Center Shift
Compatible 3D Engines:
- Unreal Engine
- Aximmetry
- Pixotope
- ZeroDensity
- Vizrt
- Brainstorm
2. #### Camera Offset
The second component is the camera offset stage, crucial for aligning real-space and CG-space. Users place an
AR Tag Cube on the studio floor to establish a reference point, capturing images through the live-action camera. This stage calculates two crucial offset values: the
Referential Offset (between the studio's origin and the tracking system) and the
Tracker Offset (between the tracker and the camera). By transmitting these values to the 3D engine over the network, users achieves a precise alignment of live-action and CGI elements.

The system utilizes FreeD tracking data, enhancing accuracy with pre-calibrated lens profiles from CalibFX®.
Additionally, CalibFX® offers compatibility with third-party lens calibration data through the
OpenTrackIO protocol, designed by the SMPTE RiS-OSVP group, which includes camera position and rotation data.
Collaboration with Sony FR7
A key feature of CalibFX® is its planned integration with the
Sony FR7 PTZ camera, scheduled for a
February 2026 firmware update. This update will enable CalibFX® to send camera offset values directly to the FR7, allowing easy one-button adjustments within the camera settings. Thus, the collaboration significantly reduces the time taken for real-time alignment of live-action and CG elements, making it an ideal choice for virtual studios.
