Band History

Founded in 1981, LOUDNESS, featuring members Minoru Niihara (vocals), Akira Takasaki (guitar), Masayuki Suzuki (bass), and Munetaka Higuchi (drums), became the first Japanese band to perform at Madison Square Garden in the United States. Their journey has been marked by significant achievements, including reaching an extraordinary 74th place on the Billboard charts, a rare accomplishment for a Japanese band, and maintaining a 19-week run on the charts. Accordingly, LOUDNESS stands at the forefront of the global rock scene, constantly evolving while honoring their roots.

Tragically, drummer Munetaka Higuchi passed away in 2008 due to liver cancer, but the band persevered, welcoming Masayuki Suzuki into their fold and continuing their journey. In 2018, Suzuki faced a personal health crisis but demonstrated true resolve by returning to the stage. Today, LOUDNESS remains a powerful force, showcasing their prowess and resilience with their ongoing anniversary tour.

From the start, LOUDNESS has achieved significant global recognition, embarking on numerous tours in Europe and the United States and signing with Atlantic Records for a multi-album agreement—the first for a Japanese band. They have consistently pushed the boundaries of heavy metal and remain an influential figure in the genre.
