ITRI Unveils Groundbreaking Drone Technologies at XPONENTIAL Europe 2025

ITRI Showcases Innovative UAV Technologies at XPONENTIAL Europe 2025

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) proudly presented its latest advancements in drone technology during the XPONENTIAL Europe 2025 exhibition, held in Düsseldorf from February 18 to 20, 2025. This event, hosted by the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), attracted representatives from 170 organizations spanning nearly 30 countries, highlighting ITRI's commitment to innovation within the global UAV industry.

With a focus on enhancing its international business opportunities, ITRI's participation was led by the Taiwan Excellence Drone International Business Opportunities Alliance (TEDIBOA). The exhibition showcased eight pioneering technologies developed in Taiwan, positioning the nation as a formidable player in the emerging European drone market. As ITRI’s President Edwin Liu stated, "Europe is set to become the world's second-largest drone market. By exhibiting our UAV research and development capabilities, we aim to foster growth and collaboration within the industry."

Highlights of ITRI’s UAV Technology Showcase

ITRI's showcase was divided into three core components: applications, software systems, and key components.

Applications: Enhancing Logistics with Delivery Drones

One of the standout innovations presented was ITRI's Delivery Drone, which is designed to significantly improve logistics capabilities in remote areas. This model features high-efficiency motors and a modular payload design, having undergone successful testing in the Kobe Industrial Zone of Japan.

Software Systems: Automation for Diverse Applications

The AI Drone Fleet System was another highlight, enabling automated features for various tasks, including smart bridge inspections, water fishing, and warehouse monitoring. Through real-time image transmission and efficient waypoint generation, the software notably reduces operational costs and boosts efficiency by three times.

Additionally, the 5G Video Streaming Module—developed in collaboration with Compal Electronics—offers ultra-low-latency image transmission, enhancing fields such as drone racing and live broadcasting, making it five times faster than traditional 5G technology.

Key Components: Optimization for Enhanced Performance

ITRI also introduced significant advancements in key components essential for drone functionality. The Electric Propulsion Module Motor and Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) improve thrust output by 10%, complemented by an air-cooled design and sensorless control that ensures better flight stability. Moreover, the Redundant Flight Controller adds reliability to missions with its dual-system fail-safes, while the ITRI PRO Mini-Flight Controller provides precise control in a compact module.

The organization further demonstrated innovative power solutions tailored for UAVs, like the High Energy Power Lithium batteries, which extend flight range by 1.5 times. ITRI's Air Cooled Fuel Cell for drones allows for an impressive 181-minute flight with up to 5 kg payload capacity, successfully completing medical deliveries at altitudes of 3,000 meters and traveling over 88 kilometers across the sea, accumulating more than 1,000 kilometers in flight tests.

Future Prospects and Global Collaboration

With an aim to strengthen Taiwan's role in the UAV industry ecosystem, ITRI seeks to expand its global collaborations through engagements at events like XPONENTIAL Europe 2025. This initiative is part of ITRI's broader efforts to connect with European technology and market resources to accelerate the drone industry's growth.
