Huawei Unveils Six Innovative Global Energy Projects at HUAWEI CONNECT 2026
On September 24, 2026, at the HUAWEI CONNECT 2026 event, Huawei held the 2026 Global Electric Power Summit, titled "AI × Energy: Unlocking a New Power System." This summit attracted over 600 participants, including representatives from global electric utilities, industry organizations, ecosystem partners, and media, all gathering to explore innovative pathways for integrating energy transition with digital and intelligent technologies.
During the summit, Huawei, together with global power companies, presented six pilot projects that exemplified end-to-end digital and intelligent transformation practices across energy generation and consumption, spanning both domestic and international markets. This marks a significant advancement for the energy sector, shifting from a unidirectional enablement toward a synergy between computing and energy.
The global energy landscape is undergoing a profound transformation. Distributed renewable energy has become essential for reducing external dependence while balancing grid resilience and universal access to electricity. Philippe Adam, Secretary-General of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), remarked that the energy sector is experiencing a massive transformation driven by the energy transition, AI data centers (AIDC), and digitalization. With interrelated challenges including the transition to renewable energy sources, smart transformation, and the lack of electricity access for 700 million people worldwide, AI has become a vital component for the survival of the century-old electrical system.
Huawei posits that low voltage—a bottleneck within electrical networks—will emerge as a primary application area for AI in the future. Bridging the management gap in low voltage requires systematic and transparent management. Six fundamental capabilities—observability, measurability, controllability, adaptability, merchantability, and traceability—are vital for long-term sustainability.
David Sun, CEO of Huawei's Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, stated, "The essence of transparency in low voltage is straightforward: faster data, higher quality, and increased profitability. To promote a new electrical system, the industry must prioritize three fundamental aspects: digital talent, digital infrastructure, and regulated digital asset base (RAB)."
Implementation Driven by Scenarios
The six global exemplars showcased during the Summit highlight the success of digital and intelligent transformation across various contexts. They include:
- - CEMIG of Brazil: A digital and intelligent network exemplifying effective integration practices.
- - Guangzhou’s Baiyun Power Supply Bureau: A demonstration area showcasing synergy between distribution and microgrids.
- - Shaoshan, Hunan, China: Intelligent diagnostics and operations in a new power distribution network.
- - Jiangxi, China: Intelligent supply and consumption of energy methods.
- - Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China: A digital UHV converter station rating ±800 kV.
- - Liaoning, China: An evolving energy communication network laying groundwork for future advancements.
Collectively, these examples represent successful practices in various scenarios covering the entire energy process in the intelligent era.
As it looks to the future, Huawei will continue to leverage its strengths in information and communication technology (ICT). By utilizing its three-layer framework—metrics, architectures, and technologies—the company aims to collaborate with global energy enterprises, standardization organizations, and ecosystem partners to drive innovation, fostering modernization of the sector and overall prosperity within the industry ecosystem.
