Record-Breaking Numbers


In 2024, TSA screened an astounding 904 million passengers, which represents an increase of more than 5% from the previous year and a significant 17% surge from 2022. This growth was accompanied by the screening of 494 million checked bags and over 2 billion carry-on items. The pinnacle of this busy travel period was during the Sunday after Thanksgiving, when TSA recorded its busiest day with 3.1 million screenings.

Enhancements in Safety and Security


This remarkable year also saw TSA prevent 6,678 firearms from entering secure areas of airports and aircraft. Recognizing that customer service is a vital component of security, TSA revamped its customer engagement efforts, answering 2.2 million calls and emails and responding to 3 million inquiries through social media forums. Additionally, the TSA Cares program assisted 69,000 travelers needing special accommodations.

The introduction of the TSA PreCheck program for 20 million members has significantly streamlined the travel experience, showcasing TSA's efforts in making air travel safer and more user-friendly.
