Revamping Tradition: Life Club's New Milk Bottle Design
The Life Club Co-operative, headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is excited to announce its plans to upgrade the beloved 200ml pasteurized milk bottle, set to roll out in late March 2026. This innovative redesign is not just about aesthetics; it's a reflection of the organization’s commitment to quality and usability, especially for the younger generation.
A Cute and Functional Design
Gone are the days of plain, transparent bottles; the new design features an adorable cow illustration that is sure to charm both children and adults alike. Additionally, the bottle has been shaped with a noticeable waist in the middle, making it easier for little hands to grasp. To further streamline the user experience, the bottle cap is now standardized with the 900ml pasteurized milk, enabling easy recycling after use.
A Deep-Rooted Legacy
The history of Life Club is closely intertwined with the journey of milk in Japan. It all began in 1965 in Setagaya, Tokyo, when a group of over 200 women come together to start a collective purchase of milk. This was a response to the lack of focus on food safety and quality management at the time, leading to the establishment of a processing plant in 1979, which directly involved cooperative members working alongside dairy farmers.
Using the pasteurization method that maintains the inherent nutrition and taste of raw milk, Life Club produces its milk through a careful 72°C for 15-second heating process. The cows are fed primarily on grass and hay, with strict measures to prevent the mixing of genetically modified feed. This focus on fresh, safe, and tasty milk has become a hallmark for Life Club, representing what many of its members desire in their daily lives.
Supporting Dairy Farmers Through Challenges
With the ongoing climate crisis and international market fluctuations driving up the costs of feed and fuel necessary for dairy farming, Life Club has established the Dairy Fund in April 2023. This initiative adds a nominal price of two yen to each milk product, which is collected to support partnered dairy farmers in regions such as Chiba, Tochigi, and Nagano through regular donations managed by Shinsei Dairy Co., Ltd.
In the fiscal years leading up to the program's conclusion in March 2026, Life Club has raised substantial funds to assist dairy producers in maintaining their operations amid rising costs:
- - 2023: ¥21,482,076
- - 2024: ¥21,486,228
- - 2025: ¥15,987,430 (as of December 2025)
To help ensure that as many people as possible can continue to enjoy milk regularly, Life Club will implement a reservation system, allowing members to pre-order milk deliveries at slightly lower prices, thereby supporting dairy farmers in a time of need.
