ElevenLabs Launches '11 Voices' Docuseries at SXSW
This March 11, 2026, the renowned tech company ElevenLabs will unveil its inspiring docuseries, "11 Voices," at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas. As part of its ambitious "1 Million Voices" initiative, ElevenLabs aims to assist one million individuals facing permanent voice loss by granting them free access to cutting-edge voice restoration technology. This undertaking represents a remarkable $1 billion investment dedicated to transforming lives.
At the forefront of this initiative is actor Rebecca Gayheart Dane, who will attend the SXSW event to honor her late husband, Eric Dane, also an actor who lived with ALS. Eric was an avid advocate for ElevenLabs' technology, which helped him reclaim his voice after his diagnosis. The launch of "11 Voices" is a tribute to his legacy and aims to elevate awareness around the struggles faced by individuals with voice loss..
The docuseries features the powerful narratives of eleven individuals suffering from various conditions associated with voice loss, such as ALS and Cerebral Palsy. Each person shares their unique experience using their AI-generated voices to narrate their stories, depicting the profound impact of voice restoration technology on their lives.
Among the moving stories presented, we see Scott, a stroke survivor, who has been empowered to deliver public speeches once more. Then there’s Pam, a hospital chaplain with ALS, who has resumed counseling patients, showing how the technology revitalizes their sense of purpose. Bryan, who survived a brain injury, has rediscovered his social life and creativity through music. Lastly, Abdi, who grapples with Cerebral Palsy, has taken up acting and modeling, illustrating a new chapter of possibility.
"When a person loses their voice, they often confront a profound loss of independence and connection," shared Mati Staniszewski, co-founder of ElevenLabs. "Witnessing our technology restore someone's voice needs to be known for how it reinstates their sense of identity. We are committed to supporting individuals regardless of their location or native language."
During the SXSW premiere, the docuseries will be showcased in a live panel titled "Hello Again: Restoring Voices with AI." The discussion will be moderated by Kamala Avila-Salmon, CEO of Kas Kas Productions, and will feature commentary from both Mati Staniszewski and Rebecca Gayheart Dane. Additionally, Yvonne Johnson—one of the heroes profiled within the docuseries—will demonstrate live on stage how her AI voice enhancement has changed her communication experience.
Initially launched in 2024 as a localized effort to help ALS patients in the U.S., the "1 Million Voices" initiative has significantly expanded its reach. Presently, ElevenLabs is dedicated to assisting anyone worldwide facing voice loss, regardless of the cause. To date, approximately 7,000 individuals have gained access to this pioneering technology, supported by over 800 nonprofit organizations spread across 49 countries.
The program aims to provide eligible users with a lifetime free license for ElevenLabs’ services. Through their technology, participants can create digital replicas of their voices from previous recordings, seamlessly integrating into assistive devices for improved everyday communication. Importantly, participants maintain full ownership of their voice models, deciding how they are utilized in the future.
As ElevenLabs continues to strive for inclusivity, it actively seeks to connect with more people who can benefit from this transformative technology. Individuals experiencing voice loss, as well as the nonprofits supporting them, are encouraged to apply via the ElevenLabs website.
To catch the "11 Voices" docuseries, viewers can stream it on the ElevenLabs YouTube channel and Spotify. The emotional trailer, narrated by the iconic Sir Michael Caine using his ElevenLabs voice, is also available for viewing online.
