Spencer Tunick's Stunning Art Installation Celebrates 100 Years of Cervezas Alhambra in Andalucía

Celebrating a Century: Spencer Tunick's 'Retrato Alhambra1925'

To commemorate its 100th anniversary, Cervezas Alhambra commissioned renowned American artist Spencer Tunick to create a monumental art installation titled 'Retrato Alhambra 1925'. This ambitious endeavor took place in an olive grove in Granada, where nearly 800 nude volunteers adorned in vibrant green body paint gathered from various parts of Spain and Europe. This unique artistic initiative serves not only as a celebration of Alhambra's rich history but also as a tribute to the artistry and culture of the Andalusian region.

The art installation marked Spencer Tunick's first project in Andalusia and emphasized the connection between the human form and nature. Participants, hailing from over 25 countries, expressed their bravery and willingness to engage with the landscape, creating an image that resonates with both visual and symbolic significance. Among the attendees was Jesús Rosado, who described Tunick's work as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Petri and Heidi, a Finnish couple, traveled specifically for this installation and remarked, “What is truly beautiful about this installation is being together, feeling human, all equal in our differences.” Such sentiments highlight how Tunick’s work not only invites participation but fosters a sense of community and inclusion.

Tunick, known for his distinctive photographic compositions featuring nudes in public spaces, has long aspired to integrate green body paint into his work. He stated, “I have always wanted to use green body paint in my work, I have had this idea for 15 years...,” aiming to harmonize the human body with nature while introducing an element of surrealism. Green has historically been employed by artists to depict utopian landscapes, merging elements of fantasy and realism; thus, Tunick's vision came to fruition in this stunning installation.

Emmanuel Pouey, the Chief Marketing Officer of Mahou San Miguel, remarked on the significance of this event, emphasizing that “Spencer Tunick's art installation is a celebration of Andalusian identity and the Sin Prisa (Unhurried) philosophy that has guided Cervezas Alhambra for one hundred years.” This philosophy of patience and dedication resonates throughout the project, resulting in a piece that will be remembered long after the moments of creation have ended.

The final image created from this installation will soon be unveiled as a lasting tribute from Cervezas Alhambra to Andalusia, solidifying the brewery's commitment to promoting the arts and maintaining close ties to the region it originated from.
