GEMStartup TOKYO represents a strategic effort by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to capitalize on the dormant potential harbored within large corporations. The initiative comprises three primary programs designed to nurture and promote new business ventures. These programs include the New Business Creation Platform, the Business Commercialization Program, and the Cooperation Model, all tailored to support innovation through workshops, lectures, mentoring, and networking opportunities.

1. New Business Creation Platform

This program is targeted at individuals and organizations eager to leverage corporate assets and move through initial internal stages towards viable business projects. Running from September 2023 to February 2024, the curriculum spans around 20 sessions, including lectures, workshops, mock pitches, and individual support, ensuring participants build a robust entrepreneurial mindset while iterating on their business ideas. Participants will engage in a comprehensive experiential learning process, transitioning from idea exploration to validating viable business models.

2. Business Commercialization Program

Tailored for those with a solid business idea ready for implementation, this program focuses on facilitating the transition of concepts into market-ready ventures. Similar to the first program, the Business Commercialization Program runs from September 2023 to February 2024, with approximately 30 sessions comprising lectures, workshops, individual mentoring, and matching events. The results will culminate in a pitch presentation attended by potential investors and collaborators, providing real exposure to the startup ecosystem.

3. Cooperation Model for Corporate Support

This initiative provides corporations with the infrastructure and support needed for advancing new business initiatives within their organizations. Helping to establish and strengthen a foundation for successful business innovations, this program facilitates internal business contests and stage-gate processes, cultivating an environment ripe for entrepreneurial growth.

Participants can apply to any of the three programs, with application periods outlined as follows:

- New Business Creation Platform: May 28, 2023, to July 31, 2023
- Business Commercialization Program: May 28, 2023, to July 17, 2023

Note: The New Business Creation Platform may close early due to high demand. The Cooperation Model application period is expected to commence around August 2023.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must be affiliated with private enterprises and show a willingness to leverage company resources for entrepreneurial activities in Tokyo.
